Way back in September of 2010, The Age of Marvels was started by our original EIC Mattbib. The project was simple in concept and very ambitious in execution - interested CBR members were given one week to "save" Marvel characters to create a brand new universe of their own. Members were limited to one character save a day until the week was up. At the end of the week 401 characters were saved to become the foundation for the AoM fictional universe.

Next, members were tasked to assign those 401 characters into individual titles and teams, create concepts for those books, hire artists and writers and surround the stars of the books with villains and supporting casts. Those titles were then divided into 9 different lines or brands, based on the theme/tone of the books. Members then nominated editors for each line and at the end of the day....AoM was formed with an EIC, a team of editors responsible for overseeing 50 fictional books. And away we went....

Each month, editors are responsible for putting together solicits based on plots received for their titles (anyone is eligible & encouraged to send in plot ideas and work with our editors on titles that interest you, you even get a byline on the solicits for used stories) then the solicits are posted for our fans and buyers to choose which titles they would pick up (virtually speaking of course) and vote in the fan's choice poll which selects their favorite overall line of the month. Low selling titles are cancelled and fan favorite winning lines are given a chance to relaunch cancelled books or debut new titles of their own.

Getting involved in AoM is easy. If there is a title that interests you, and would like to get involved, just PM the respective editor of that title with your ideas. Each lines editor(s) and the concept of the titles can be found here on first page of the AoM Bullpen thread. It would help you tremendously to read a few of the older solicits so that you get a feel for what the title is all about. Links to past solicits can be found above.

Editors are responsible for soliciting plots for their titles and organizing them into monthly solicitations (summaries). Editors must clear non-brand character usage through the EIC & the editors of that brand. They should attempt to use all plot submissions they receive to the best of their abilities, using/combining plot points that work well together to form the most exciting stories possible. While Editors get to direct the plot, and can even submit their own plot points, they do not necessarily dictate it exclusively and will work with their plotters to develop and create new stories for our titles. Editors must credit their plotters in their solicitations.

Editors that fail to consistently submit stories or participate in AoM may be subject to termination and/or replacement, reassignment. Lines that lose a significant amount of titles may find their editors and remaining titles redistributed to other appropriate lines.

Anyone can become a plotter. If you have a good idea for one of our titles, send it our way. Get involved. Interested participants may submit plot details & story ideas for a title to that title's editor(s.) Plot ideas should be sent to editor(s) of that title via PM. Check out first post in this thread for editor info.
Note: editors may opt to not use your suggestions if a previously submitted idea makes yours obsolete, contradictory or conflicts with current AoM continuity.

The New Era gives our individual line editors more exclusivity to their characters and creators. This should make it smoother to keep continuity in line and strong. Characters are assigned to one line and can appear on multiple titles of that line. Writers are restricted to one line (editorial team) but may work two monthlies at a time. Artists are restricted to one monthly and lines now will feature a fill-in artist for a line as well as a variant cover artist (who may produce up to 3 variant covers a month.) To use characters that are assigned to another line, simply make a request to the EIC and the appropriate line editor for usage and try to work out details. Editors are not required to grant every request but we have a great group here and if it works continuity wise, usually such requests are granted. However, we don't want to have the problem of (example: a hero like Wolverine appearing on multiple teams in different places all over the globe at the same time, it is too confusing continuity wise)

The Available Character Pool is there for every editor or plotter's use. If you have an idea for a character on the list, simply make a formal request to the EIC via PM or on this thread and let me/us know the character(s) you ate interested in using and what title(s) they may be appearing in as well as the time frame they will be needed. If everything fits, those characters will be reserved for your usage over the designated time frame.
Note: Newly created titles (example: fan poll winner decides to start a brand new team book) get priority for available character pool.

To avoid a title's cancellation, solicitations are due via PM to the EIC by the start of the month. We will try to post solicitations by the first Wednesday of each month. Monthly solicitations should be in the format used on CBR and should credit all plotters for each title. The EIC will post a new thread each month containing all of the following month's solicitations.

Solicitations should be a single paragraph summarizing the highlights of your issue. Don't get too detailed. Be sure that your plot summary would fill, but not overload, one issue. You're not writing dialogue or characterization or anything of that nature. If your issue has a cliffhanger, make that be your concluding statement/question. Each editor and plotter has their own style, check out past solicitations to see what works best for you.

CBR posters will respond stating which titles they plan to "purchase". Posters will also vote in the poll for their favorite line each month. Don’t worry, we’re not expecting any money. This is purely a game and open for everyone to join.

As of March 2014, cancellations of AoM titles will be decided by a three-strikes policy. If a title is the lowest selling book three times, then it will be up for cancellation, leaving it’s fate in the hands of the editor of that month’s poll winning line.

Each month, the AoM lines compete against one another to be crowned the best of the month. Sales are a source of pride. But the poll is where the prizes lie. New ongoing series, character and creative team additons, and a whole host of special offers await the editor of the winning line. Prizes may vary, depending on circumstances and special requests.

AoM also welcomes a new bonus option to the fold. Want to hear some details? Well, win the poll and find out!

A new feature for AoM is the limited series option. Each line are allowed three mini/maxi issues per month utilizing the characters available on current rosters and exclusive character pools. So when ongoing series are locked down and subject to poll wins for change, limited series grant editors and plotters, new and old, a chance to embark on their own titles, crossovers and one-shots, with all the freedom they desire. Guest-appearances featuring characters outside a line are always welcome. But please, confirm everything with the respective editor first.

The bullpen is the place (right here on this very thread) for editors and plotters to discuss the behind-the-scenes workings of AoM. Fans are welcome to interact as well, offer feedback and ideas or ask any questions they may have about The Age of Marvels project. This thread is also a great resource tool for AOM as you will find farther down the page a full line-up of AoM Titles with rosters, creators, editors, etc. Plus links to past AOM threads and more.

You might see a bit of camaraderie here as well and much talk about the Bullpen's Secret Hangout..."The Fortress of Inebriation" where the "real" brainstorming takes place. Much mead is dispensed, Fin Fang Foom works the door and the very worst Karaoke performers belt out everything except Barry Manilow and Celine Dion (For a full rundown of Fortress rules, Marvell2100 will happily instruct you with a vengeance) So c'mon in and make yourself at home. The more the merrier so if you get the itch to participate, we will be glad to have you in the Bullpen!
