“EVIL TWINNING”
Bruised and half-drowned, Batman finally pulls himself out of Gotham Harbor. He was left there to die after being nearly killed... by Bruce Wayne? Someone is impersonating his alter ego, but it’s not Clayface or any normal shapeshifter he’s faced in the past. There’s something more malevolent about this fiend. Something sinister about this... Doppelgänger.
It all must somehow connect to the Doppelgänger’s first victim, Mary Sue Parker. Why did the imposter kill the Wayne Enterprises executive? And who put a million dollar bounty on Parker’s killer? What was Parker involved in?
A search of her apartment, more thorough than the GCPD’s, reveals a hidden fixation with the occult. Of specific interest, there are earmarked passages from the Egyptian Book of the Dead regarding “ka,” malevolent spirit doubles. A ka of Helen was famously said to have mislead Paris and caused him to lose the Trojan War. Could Parker have summoned a ka intended to cause Bruce to lose Wayne Enterprises? Why?
Batman decides to consult his own occult-expert, Jason Blood. Unfortunately, the Doppelgänger had the same idea and got there first! Can even the Demon, Etrigan, survive the wrath of an evil entity designed to replicate Bruce Wayne?
Meanwhile, since Bruce is now a wanted fugitive, his assets have been seized. With a search warrant issued for Wayne Manor, can Alfred Pennyworth stop the police from finding the Batcave?
Fear not, though, for the well-intentioned Vanderveer "Van" Wayne arrives to help clear his cousin Bruce’s name! The only problem: Van is a total idiot!
