Bruce Banner stayed on Earth during the events of One More Day. To save the world, the Fantastic Four blocked out Gamma Rays. Bruce understood this would cut the Hulk out of his life forever. He envisioned peace, for once, and freedom to pursue his scientific ventures without fear of hulking out and ruining everything. But he didn’t get what he bargained for... now, every night he is awakened by nightmares of damned souls and a fiery pit. Of demons and the devil. And he has to deal with the fact... that he sent the Hulk to Hell!

The Hulk hasn’t stopped fighting since he arrived... here, wherever here is. There’s no time to think about it. Circling above him, on a glider of fire, the horrific Demogoblin directs seemingly endless hordes of Baphomet-looking demons to relentlessly attack! “Puny horny goat men want fight Hulk? Hulk smash you all!” Yet they just keep coming.
He cries out in anguish, “Hulk just wants to be left alone!” Unexpectedly, a familiar face answers. A face more horrifying than any demon: the face of Bruce’s abusive father, Brian Banner!
“Son, my true son, if you ever want to be free of this place... then come with me. I will guide you to salvation. All you have to do... is smash the lord of Hell himself! Well? What do you say, kiddo? Will Hulk smash... Mephisto?”

Brian Banner may have fathered Bruce, but the Hulk is his true son. The son he nurtured through abuse, the repressed explosive anger that he instilled within an innocent boy made manifest. He always knew that the Hulk would join him in the inferno one day... and now he’s using the monster he created to help him rule in Hell!
Already, the Hulk has been guided to smash his way into the Fifth Circle - the banks of the River Styx, where the wrathful wage eternal war. Mephisto seeks to stop his advance there, sending one of his most wrathful lieutenants: Julia Koenig, who in life fought for the Nazis in World War II as “Warrior Woman”! This will be one hell of a fight!
On Earth, Bruce Banner continues to have nightmares... until a literal nightmare chooses to visit him. The spirit of Vengeance, Ghost Rider, knows that for all his anger, the Hulk was a hero. He shouldn’t be in Hell. Only a deal with Mephisto could have sent him there... so, what bargain did you strike, Bruce? Confess!

The Hulk has nearly smashed his way to the final Circle. Only Mephisto’s children stand between the green Goliath and their demonic father. Blackheart would battle him. Jezebel would seduce him. But the Hulk has never been angrier and is ready to smash both their brains out in different ways!
His damned father, Brian Banner, smiles. It’s only a matter of time before the monster he created throws down with Mephisto himself. And the beauty is, no matter who loses, Brian wins! His revenge is fated either way, for both of those devils are responsible for sending him to Hell!
On Earth, the Ghost Rider stares deep into Bruce Banner’s soul - to a memory long ago suppressed. A bruised boy, scared and suffering, praying to anyone who could make the abuse stop. He didn’t remember, but the angry part of him did strike a bargain that night. The beatings ended... because Mephisto killed young Bruce’s father in exchange for his soul.
As Bruce is wrought with guilt, the Rider encourages him to think more like his lawyer cousin. A child can’t consent to a contract. Indeed, Banner is quite fortunate that the “One More Day” Event “killed” the Hulk. It allowed the earthbound Spirit of Vengeance to discover that the contract was void ab initio before Banner’s entire soul was sent to Hell - and the exploitation of innocent children just so happens to be what the Rider likes avenging the most! It’s time to blaze a path into Hell and bring the Hulk back - and Banner’s riding bitch!

The Hulk vs. Mephisto! ‘Nuff said!
...or is it?
This is the ultimate confrontation that’s been building since the soul of the Hulk was first sent to Hell! One would think that not even the green Goliath could smash the devil himself in his own sulfur and brimstone-filled realm... but something strange is afoot. Mephisto traditionally has ultimate power over the damned souls in Hell. He doesn’t have any power over the Hulk though, and he doesn’t know why. But the real villain here, the one who instigated all of this, does.
The damned father, Brian Banner, knows that the Hulk who has smashed every demonic entity in his path for the last several issues is not a complete soul. He’s just part of his son’s soul, and as long as Bruce Banner is tethering the Hulk to Earth, his soul-form is unbeatable in the underworld! He’ll kill Mephisto and leave an empty throne... upon which Brian Banner intends to sit!
Meanwhile, the Ghost Rider, with a Hulk-free Bruce Banner in tow, blazes a path towards the nearest Hellmouth. His plan? Liberate the soul of the Hulk and reunite it with Bruce’s. But is he about to inadvertently damn them both?
