“FEED THE TROLLS”
The Nine Realms - worlds of infinite majesty and mystery, cosmically bound by Yggdrasil the World Tree and watched over by the gods of Asgard. The king of these gods, the All-Father Odin, strives to maintain peace yet is unflinching in his administration of justice and retribution. The Rock Trolls of Rike Nedenfor, or “the Realm Below,” recently attempted an uprising. They stormed the Realm Eternal but were turned back, at great cost, by the brave warriors of Asgard and their prince, the mighty Thor! To make sure they were no longer a threat, Odin dissolved the Trolls’ clans and banished them to internment camps scattered across the green world of Vanaheim. Beaten, the brutish race has languished in despair. Yet one of their kind refuses to yield. Somehow, this Troll has obtained what resembles brass knuckles made of enchanted uru, and his fists have broken the barriers holding back Trollkind. Several camps have already been liberated. If he can rally his people, this Ulik could be a significant threat... and that is why Odin sends his son Thor on a quest to stop him!

“LOST AND FOUND”
The quest has begun. Thor, god of thunder and prince of Asgard, has been tasked by his All-Father Odin with bringing the outlaw troll Ulik to justice. Ulik, somehow evading detection, has been liberating his warlike but defeated people from internment camps and wreaking unholy havoc across Vanaheim. Even with assistance from the unparalleled warrior Sif and his half-brother Balder, Thor struggles in pursuit of his elusive enemy. But is Ulik really the vile fiend Thor believes him to be? Or are greater forces at play, manipulating a much larger conflict?
Meanwhile, the trickster Loki seeks to prove his worthiness by finding Ulik before his incompetent brothers can. Delving into the Asgardian Palace’s secret maps and charts of Vanaheim, he discovers an isolated area called “Leyndarmál” that was heretofore unknown to him. The confidential records reflect Leyndarmál was magically sequestered by Odin himself at the request of Thor. Apparently the place was intended to be a therapeutic “safe space” for “a friend from work.” Unfortunately for this friend, no space is safe from the god of mischief...

“OF ORDER AND CHAOS” part one “DUALITY”
Not long ago, the Mighty Thor journeyed to Midgard to battle its greatest monster - the Incredible Hulk. But this was a Hulk unlike any previously witnessed. An encounter with the cosmic entity of duality known as the In-Betweener left the man and monster deeply polarized, driving Bruce Banner inexorably towards “order” whilst sending the Hulk spiraling into greater “chaos.” Not even Thor could defeat him, and only through great effort was Banner finally able to reassert himself. Fearful of ever unleashing the chaotic Hulk again, Banner begged Thor for help - and Thor, seeing a hero afflicted with a curse most foul, petitioned his father Odin to secretly sequester an isolated region of one of the Nine Realms where puny Banner could be left alone in peaceful solitude. And so he was. Until Loki found him on Vanaheim... and made him angry! Now the realm must contend with an uncontrollable and indiscriminate rage the likes of which it has never seen! Will Banner ever be able to forgive himself for the countless acts of violence the Hulk is about to commit?
Meanwhile, the God of Thunder’s quest to recapture the rebel Rock Trolls has culminated in a duel with their new leader. Thor fights for the honor and security of Asgard. Ulik fights for the freedom of his people. As Balder, Sif, and the other trolls look on, the titanic contest may be cut short when it appears the only way to stop the chaotic Hulk is for the two uru-wielding enemies to join forces! And all the while, the In-Betweener continues to effectuate universal balance... 32 PGs./Rated T+ …$3.99

“OF ORDER AND CHAOS” part two “THE NIDAVELLIR JOB”
Unlikely allies Thor and Ulik the Troll continue to struggle against the rampaging Chaotic Hulk as he lays waste to Vanaheim. But even these two powerhouses can only slow down the monstrous side of Bruce Banner after he was cursed by the In-Betweener. Someone needs to formulate a plan and soon...
Enter Loki! To defeat the monster, the God of Mischief draws inspiration from the one object that has ceaselessly vexed him: Mjölnir, Thor’s enchanted hammer. Vast power can be transferred into the uru metal from which it is forged - potentially even the chaotic power currently afflicting the Hulk. So, where can Loki obtain fresh uru? A preternatural eavesdropper, he happens to know that his adoptive All-Mother Frigga recently commissioned the dwarves of Nidavellir to forge an uru mace for her beloved natural-born son Balder. Loki could requisition it through official channels, but that wouldn’t allow him to be the dramatic hero. Surely no one would mind if he simply “borrowed” the weapon and enchanted it into “Gammölnir the Hulk Hammer” in order to forestall an emergency within the Nine Realms... All he has to do is get by thousands of dwarven warriors and steal it from one of the most high-security armories in the universe! Easy enough, except for the fact that the most notorious assassins in Svartalfheim, the dark elven Daughters of Døkkr - Illska and Sārga - are planning a similar heist at the same exact time!

“DIVINE JUSTICE”
The Hulk has been subdued and the In-Betweener’s curse dispelled... but the destruction he wrought remains. Bruce Banner must now stand before the All-Father in judgement. The Vanir, led by Queen Frigga, demand a swift execution as Vanaheim bore the brunt of the Chaotic Hulk’s rampage. Yet Odin, questioning Hulk’s culpability, sees a spark of worthiness in the monster from Midgard. Perhaps a test is in order? To gain ultimate wisdom, the King of Asgard famously once made a sacrifice of himself to himself. He hung from the great cosmic world tree Yggdrasil for nine days, stabbed and bleeding, as he peered into the waters of the fathomless Well of Urd below until secrets and truths untold were finally revealed to him. If the Hulk can survive such an ordeal, Odin will pardon his crimes. If he cannot, then Asgardian justice will be served!
Meanwhile, for his part in defeating the Hulk, the troll Ulik has been granted an island on Vanaheim for his people to build a new homeland. Having earned the respect of his rival the mighty Thor in battle, the two now face a new challenge - how much mead can they drink?!
But not everyone is feeling celebratory, especially not the native Vanir... nor Loki, who feels cheated of credit for the victory and believes the green brute who pummeled him deserves naught but a painful end. Fortunately for the god of mischief, he knows someone on Midgard who would agree. The Hulk humiliated this man in battle, slew his people, destroyed his armaments, and even deflowered his daughter! So wouldn’t it be interesting if General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross found out that his mortal enemy could presently be found in Asgard?

“CONGRESS WITH SERPENTS”
The Congress of Worlds: an assembly of representatives joined to resolve issues of and between the Nine Realms. Today a representative from Midgard speaks. Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, an esteemed military leader from the realm’s most powerful nation, the United States of America, demands that Asgard extradite a criminal most foul. Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk, wrought untold destruction on Midgard and now Midgard seeks justice and retribution. Odin, however, knows the Hulk’s actions were due to the curse of the In-Betweener. The All-Father absolved the Hulk of crimes related to a similar rampage on Vanaheim and would deny Ross’ request - but what say the speakers of the other realms? To ignore their voice again may be folly, as Odin’s ever-spying ravens have already whispered to him regarding rumors of discontent with his rule...
Meanwhile, the Sons of Odin arrive in Alfheim. Thor, Loki, and Balder have been sent at the request of the Queen of the Light Elves to investigate stirrings of the Jormungandi, a snake-like race descended from the enormous Midgard Serpent once prophesied to kill Thor during Ragnarök. The God of Thunder, never one to passively accept fate, ensured that prophecy would never come to fruition by slaying the monstrous wyrm centuries ago. The beast’s spawn, however, escaped to the woodlands of Alfheim where they’ve naught been much trouble - until now. It seems they have an aggressive new cold-blooded leader who aims to see the old prophecy fulfilled. And his name... is Fin Fang Foom!
Plus, the revelry after the Rock Trolls were granted a new homeland may have borne unexpected fruit. Lady Sif... is with child!

“THE SCIENCE OF WAR”
To ameliorate discontent within the Nine Realms, Odin has granted Midgard’s request for extradition and surrendered the Hulk to the custody of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Under the auspices of national security, Ross has his arch-nemesis subjected to (he hopes) painful experimentation in an effort to weaponize Banner’s transformation and create gamma-enhanced soldiers. But Thor, Prince of Asgard, says thee nay! He will not abandon an ally to torture and death. Joined by Sif, who has yet to inform the god of thunder that she is with child, Thor resolves to liberate his friend and end Ross’ perverse experimentation - even if the legions of the United States be hurled against him. Yet unbeknownst to our heroes, they face no mere mortals on this quest. Ross, it seems, insisted that he be the first test subject. And lo, a Red Hulk awaits!
What’s more, Asgardian royalty attacking a military installation on U.S. soil will almost certainly be construed as an act of war! Can Loki cover up the incident? Does he even want to?
Plus, in the cold realm of Niffleheim there is naught but primordial darkness and ice. There is no life. For that realm is home to the undead Draugr - the “again-walkers” - and upon Niffleheim’s frozen throne sits its skeletal king: Thrain. There he nurses an old grudge - a hatred for the man that first cursed him to living death. He has a plan for vengeance, but if he truly desires to depose the tyrant “All-Father” then he will require allies. Fortunately for Thrain, the leader of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim is like-minded. So begins an unholy alliance... with Malekith the Accursed!

“THE FRUIT OF A POISON TREE”
Musphelheim and Jotunheim, a realm of fire and a realm of ice, both of whom have recently lost leaders. Yet since the fall of Surtr, the molten men of the Múspellssynir have rallied under the aggressive banner of a new champion: the unextinguished Aldrnari the Incinerator! The Frost Giants, on the other hand, have fared less well.
The power vacuum left after King Laufey’s demise has rendered the blue behemoths disorganized and vulnerable... a weakness Aldrnari seeks to exploit! Now under siege, only the rightful heir to the throne of Jotunheim can unify the realm’s remaining defenders... only Loki Laufeyson can save his fatherland! But the Frost Giants are surely not clamoring for the return of that particular prodigal son. Can he persuade them... by stealing the Casket of Ancient Winters?
Meanwhile, after discovering that Sif is with child, Thor commits himself to the most perilous quest of all... marriage! But will she accept his proposal, knowing his lascivious fondness for mortal women?
And on Midgard, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross prepares for a battle unlike any he’s ever waged before. After the Crown Prince of Asgard, Thor, led an unprovoked attack against a U.S. military base on domestic soil and absconded with convicted terrorist and person of mass destruction, Bruce Banner (see THE MIGHTY THOR #6), the nation was left with no choice. America has officially declared War on Asgard! And the Red Hulk is planning to lead the campaign!

“THROWBACK THORSDAY”
Magni and Modi Thorson. The twins of Thunder. Gods of strength and courage, respectively. Alas, the glorious destiny one envisions for these two never manifested. Raised in the ruins of Asgard, the brothers grew to manhood struggling to survive amongst Dark Elven death squads, gangs of ravenous undead Draugr, and worse. War had come to their homeland and never left. Their grandfather Odin’s reign ended in violence, their mother Sif slain before coming to term, forcing them into combat from the moment they escaped the womb. The only constant in their lives besides death was their caretaker, Old Man Banner, who started out mad and slowly deteriorated. Even when lucid, however, Banner could never recall specifically what caused Asgard’s fall, though he consistently told them two things... it happened in the Midgard year of 2019 and it was entirely their father’s fault! But all is not lost! The brothers have salvaged pieces of the destroyed Bifrost to open a small rainbow bridge, not through space... but through time. The two can finally go back to before the Götterdämmerung War. They can finally go back - and slay Thor before he ruins everything!
Meanwhile, in the present, the Draugr king Thrain and the Dark Elf Malekith amass more allies disgruntled with Asgard’s dominance, all recently thwarted and humbled by the Sons of Odin. Amongst them? Aldrnari, of the molten men of the Múspellssynir; Fing Fang Foom, leader of the Jormungandi descendants of the Midgard Serpent; and “Thunderbolt” Ross, America’s foremost military general. Yet the most powerful member of this foreboding cabal is also the most unanticipated. For no one would ever expect... her!

“YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED...” part one “DISTRACTIONS”
The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by his majesty, the All-Father King Odin Borson, to cordially invite you to the marriage of
His Royal Highness Prince Thor Odinson of Asgard
to
Lady Sif
Across the Rainbow Bridge at the Asgardian Royal Palace
On the Midgard date of Thorsday, August 29, 2019.
A reply is requested.
With varied conflicts and troubles arising throughout the Nine Realms, gods and mortals alike yearn for a respite - and nothing captures hearts and provides optimistic escapism to the masses like a royal wedding! As such, Odin has spared no expense on the affair - though the fact that the bride will be five months pregnant during the ceremony chafes him. Security, of course, will be an issue. Draugr sightings have increased and a Midgard nation has declared war on Asgard due to his son’s rash actions. Although physically weak, Odin knows Americans can be surprisingly dangerous... As such, he names his more reliable son, Balder the Brave, as Protector of Ceremonies - an appointment Balder may regret when Dark Elven assassins Illska and Sārga plot to arrive uninvited!
Elsewhere, Thor himself girds his loins for revelry! His best man, Bruce Banner, has planned a Bachelor party worthy of myth that includes a party cruise over the Sea of Space on Skíðblaðnir, greatest of all ships, exotic rune dancers, and unlimited mead in the halls of Nidavellir! With invitees including the new King of Jotunheim Loki and former enemy turned friend Ulik the Troll, what could go wrong?
Meanwhile, on Earth, one old soldier approaches another. It’s been a very long time since Cain Marko served his country; a long time since he found that mystical gem in a hot Asian war-zone. But this time Cain’s country is at war with literal gods and General “Thunderbolt” Ross intends to win. To do that, he doesn’t need a soldier... he needs a Juggernaut!

“YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED...” part two “UNTIL DEATH”
Well-wishers prayed it would be the happiest of days, but the Royal Wedding of Prince Thor and Lady Sif was fated to end in tragedy. As the All-Father Odin completed his grand speech, he was viciously stabbed in the gut by one whom he never believed would dare betray him... his wife and Thor’s stepmother, Queen Frigga!
The All-Mother, a Vanir of Vanaheim, declared her actions taken on behalf of her people - to throw off the shackles of oppression long ago foisted upon them by the rulers of the Nine Realms - Odin’s Asgardian Aesir. And she wasn’t alone. Regicide was the signal to her rebel cabal. It meant “begin the attack!”
The Draugr of Niffleheim under the skeletal undead King Thrain. The Dark Elves of Svartalfheim under their sorcerous master Malekith. The ever-burning warriors of Musphelheim under Aldrnari the Incinerator. The reptilian Jormungandi under their dragon overlord Fin Fang Foom. And the men of Midgard, under General Thunderbolt Ross, with his his newest recruit - Cain Marko, the unstoppable Juggernaut! These unlikely armies breech the walls of a distracted and unprepared Asgard, plunging the Realms into civil war! So begins the Götterdämmerung...
Thor, a pregnant Sif, and their wedding party that includes Bruce Banner, new King of Jotunheim Loki, and the troll leader Ulik, are immediately placed on the defensive. Holding Asgard may be impossible, but can Thor even manage to lead a retreat and recover his father’s body?
Plus, Balder the Brave is a god torn between two Realms. Unlike Thor and Loki, he is the blood child of both Odin and Frigga: half Aesir, half Vanir, with allegiance to both. Will he fight his own mother... or join her?

“INTO THE FREY”
Asgard has fallen. In its ravaged Royal Palace, the Draugr King Thrain stands beside the throne now occupied by the All-Mother Frigga, who betrayed and slew her husband Odin. But what brought her... to this?
In the time before time, it is said that the sons of Buri, Bor and Njord, did war upon one another. Bor prevailed. His loyalists would become the Aesir of Asgard. Njord, having been slain, left his lieutenant Frey to shepherd his supporters into exile. They became the Vanir of Vanaheim. Thus they grew apart. But Bor’s successor, Odin, sought to reunite his race of “gods.” When Vanaheim refused, Asgard invaded. Much blood was shed. To end the strife, Frey’s daughter Freyja agreed to wed Odin. So betrothed, she was given an Asgardian name and her disobedient father was cast out of both Realms. And lo, Vanaheim carried on under Asgard’s banner - yet it’s people always yearned for independence. This desire multiplied after recent perceived insults to the Realm, including Odin’s decision to jeopardize Vanaheim by secretly granting land within it to the Midgardian monster, the Hulk, then forgoing the execution of the Hulk after he inevitably rampaged throughout the Realm, and then awarding more sovereign Vanaheim territory to Ulik’s barbarous Rock Trolls for helping end the threat that Odin himself created (see THE MIGHTY THOR #1, 2, 4 & 5).
No longer would Vanaheim be abused. And no longer would she be “Frigga.” She was Freyja again, now and forevermore. And no longer would the cursed undead Draugr be known as Thrain. He, too, had earned his original name. He was, once again, Frey! And woe be onto the enemies of their new royal family...
Elsewhere, Thor, Sif, Loki, Ulik, and the Hulk, amongst other survivors, attempt a retreat into the Sea of Stars aboard the Asgardian ship Skíðblaðnir. But in hot pursuit is the Naglfar, unrivaled vessel of the dead, and at its helm in none other than Malekith the Accursed! Can the heroes escape in time to save their most precious cargo - a barely-clinging-to-life Odin?!?

“ROYALTY IN EXILE”
Götterdämmerung: The Twilight of the Gods; the war that engulfs the Nine Realms.
Thor and his allies have fled to what is now ironically one of their last safe havens: Jotunheim, Realm of the Frost Giants. Loki recently claimed his birthright - the throne in Utgard Palace - and, surprising many, proved himself a worthy king that inspired actual loyalty (see THE MIGHTY THOR # 7). But with Asgard fallen and it’s conquerors on the move, soon no place will be safe...
The forces arrayed against the Asgardian loyalists and Jotunheim are many. As such, they desperately need allies. Thor believes the Light Elves of Alfheim, the Dwarves of Nidavellir, and the Rock Trolls of Rike Nedenfor will answer Asgard’s call to arms... though that’s far from a certainty. He’ll need to petition them all directly, though the Trolls must take priority. Asgard granted them a new homeland on Vanaheim, and as Vanaheim just revolted, Ulik’s people are now in mortal danger. Ulik promises his warriors will fight beside the God of Thunder if he can protect the Trolls’ newly won sovereignty, but can even Thor and the Hulk defend a settlement entrenched deep within enemy territory?
At the same time, a very pregnant Sif and an emotionally conflicted Loki try to prevent Odin’s death as the lifeblood continues to seep from his stab-wound...
And in a conquered Asgard, the All-Mother Freyja has named her new general: Balder the Brave! She long favored her true-born son over his bastard step-brother Thor and his mongrel adopted brother Loki. Now the half Vanir-half Aesir Balder is finally elevated to the rank he deserves. And as Odin gifted his favored son that damnable hammer, Freyja intends to bestow upon her son an even greater gift: invulnerability! Though the ancient spell-work required to grant such a boon may be extraordinarily dangerous...

“ELF ESTEEM”
The Asgardian refugees continue their desperate quest for allies in the Götterdämmerung War. Their hopes currently lie with the Light Elves of Alfheim. Thor and Hulk expect willing allies given the Realm’s historic loyalty and ancestral rivalry with one of Asgard’s enemies: the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. However, the enemy of your enemy is not always your friend. The haughty Light Elf Queen insists they complete trials to prove their worth.
As attractiveness is one of the Light Elves’ most cherished virtues, Thor finds himself in a struggle he never anticipated: a beauty pageant! Can the deposed Prince of Asgard claim a new title: that of “Mr. Alfheim”?
Meanwhile, Hulk is sent to quell an uprising amongst a savage offshoot of the elven people. Unbeknownst to him, a musclebound raging green behemoth is exactly what those people were praying for. How will Hulk deal with his informal ascension to “King of the Orcs”?
Elsewhere, internal conflict arises within Freyja’s forces. Their standing general, Balder the Brave, has been disrespected and challenged by the Dark Elf Malekith. The only acceptable response is a duel to the death! Freyja is confident in her son’s victory given that her spell of invulnerability was successfully and secretly cast upon him. There is no way Malekith could know of Balder’s one and only weakness. There is no way he could know... about mistletoe.

“NO BLOOD FOR URU”
The Asgardians continue their desperate quest for allies in the Götterdämmerung War. Having successfully united with Alfheim, Jotunheim, and the Rock Trolls, Thor now looks toward a familiar yet unpredictable Realm he once swore to protect - Midgard. Its mightiest nation, America, is formally aligned with the betrayer Freyja largely thanks to the machinations of high-ranking General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. But Thor knows there are those who oppose America’s actions in the war...
Protestors surround America’s houses of power with signs that read “No Blood for Uru” and “Get the Valhalloutta There!” While Thor is busy reuniting with an old ally (see CAPTAIN AMERICA #14), Loki formulates a plan to leverage the well-intentioned protestors to bring about an end to America’s involvement in an unpopular and otherworldly civil war. But how far is the God of Lies willing to push the anti-war demonstrators in the name of saving his people? Is Loki fully prepared to go up against the military-industrial complex? After all, they’ve got an army AND a Hulk - a red one!
Meanwhile, with their father away, the adorable Thor Babies - Magni and Modi - are getting into mischievous hijinks! Only one month old and already in their first battle with an undead Draugr! Will these cuties even reach their second month?

“DWARFING YOUR PROBLEMS”
After failing to convince the American government to abandon its alliance with the traitor Queen Freyja, the Asgardian refugees continue their desperate quest for allies in the Götterdämmerung War. Their hopes currently lie with the dwarves of Nidavellir. It is well known that the dwarven Realm is divided amongst four kingdoms with four kings - Norðri, Suðri, Austri, and Vestri. While most dwarves are short and stout, the dwarf kings are enormous - rivaling the size of a Frost Giant, often with tempers to match!
The wounded Odin finds a willing friend in Norðri of the North, as his kingdom is a longtime ally to the Asgardian crown. Austri of the East, however, fails to see how an Aesir/Vanir war is a dwarven problem - and it’s up to Loki to make him understand that the war is a problem for all the realms!
Vestri of the West would rather stockpile dwarven weapons and fortify his own mountain strongholds. Can Sif and the adorable Thor babies, Magni and Modi, convince him to lend them his axes?
And nobody has heard from Suðri of the South for years... yet Thor and Hulk must persuade him to heed Asgard’s call to arms. “GODS HELP US ALL”
With followers largely concentrated in Scandinavia but spread worldwide, a new (or is it an old) religion is ascendant: Eddaic Neopaganism. Adherents of the faith worship the Norse gods and, in particular, Midgard’s protector: Thor. They wear hammer necklaces, celebrate Yule, and rest on Thursdays (a.k.a. Thor’s Day, named after their deity). Unfortunately, their faith places them in conflict with a major world power: the United States government!
After Thor’s attack on a U.S. military installation to rescue the Hulk (see THE MIGHTY THOR #6), America declared war on Asgard and allied with Freyja’s Vannaheim in the Götterdämmerung War. Eddaic Neopagans see America’s actions as heresy - and one extremist responds as extremists typically do. When the zealot unsuccessfully attempts to assassinate the hawkish General Thunderbolt Ross, the religion becomes Ross’ target!
With the Red Hulk and troops armed with Hulkbuster gear inbound, Thor and Sif arrive at the religion’s seat of power in Malmö, Sweden. The Asgardians quickly find themselves in the difficult position of having to defend their worshippers whilst simultaneously rooting out the radical elements within the congregation. Can their divine intervention save the day, or will they only succeed in alienating their flock?
Meanwhile, the severed head of the dark sorcerer Malekith has become one of the most potent magic-infused artifacts in the Nine Realms... so, of course, Loki is going to try and steal it - though the new Queens of Svartalfheim won’t let it go easily!

“OFFENSIVE”
In a betrayal that still reverberates through the Nine Realms, Odin was stabbed by his own wife, Frigga - now returned to her maiden name, Freyja. Critically wounded, his sons Thor and Loki spirited his prone body away in retreat. For more than seven months, Odin has been convalescing as he and his family have been constantly harried by Freyja’s forces. And for more than half a year, the treacherous All-Mother has been sitting upon his throne in an Asgard utterly conquered by the unholy alliance of Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, Musphelheim, Niffleheim, the draconian Jormungandi, and Midgard’s United States of America. No more.
There was hope that when healed he could right this wrong, but Odin now understands that he will never again be what he once was. His weakness is holding his people back. There must be a new All-Father, young and capable of leading the Asgardians in this time of crisis. And there is only one choice...
Reluctantly assuming the crown, King Thor vows to avenge his father! He’d tirelessly assembled his own alliance of Asgardian refugees, Jotunheim, Nidavellir, Alfheim, and Rock Trolls and the time has come for them to cease retreating and to finally strike back! The Járngreipr Offensive has begun and it’s first objective is to cast the serpents out of the Elven realm of Alfheim! But to do this, the God of Thunder must bring his power to bear against the reptilian Jormungandi and their leader, “He Whose Limbs Shatter Mountains and Whose Back Scrapes the Sun” - Fin Fan Foom! “FOOM IS DEAD. LONG LIVE FOOM.”
King Thor’s Járngreipr Offensive succeeded in Alfheim, liberating the Light Elf realm and driving the serpentine Jormungandi and their Vanir allies out. This victory could not have been achieved without slaying the reptile’s leader: Fin Fang Foom. But, like the gods of Asgard themselves, the great dragon was a creature of mixed myth and science. His death, therefore, carries unforeseen consequences... and Thor becomes trapped within visions of Foom’s life.
A dragon war on the world of Kakaranthara.
A diaspora into space.
The subjugation of Shang Dynasty China. A betrayal that would cost centuries of imprisonment.
A cycle of death and rebirth.
This is a story of love and hate. This is the story of Fin Fang Foom, told in all its brutality and glory for the first time.
Yet, discovered within the green leviathan’s body... an egg. Embraced by Thor’s young offspring, Magni and Modi, will a new Foom with a new destiny emerge? Or must gods and dragons be doomed to forever be foes?
Elsewhere, the severed head of Malekith has been a potent magical energy source for Loki, enabling him to lead his Frost Giant legions in pushing back the encroaching hordes of Musphelheim. The head would be an excellent weapon... if it would only be silent! Constantly poking at his insecurities. Constantly trying to make him second guess his deeds or betray his family. Alas, Loki is too strong-willed to ever let that happen.... is he not?

“WE COME FROM THE LAND OF THE ICE AND SNOW”
Since ascending to the throne of fallen Asgard, Thor reversed the course of the war against the Vanir and their allies. For half a year they were beaten, but his Járngreipr Offensive brought victory upon victory. Yet, more than any other from his pantheon, Thor had always protected and championed Midgard. Now, he was forced to wage war upon a nation of man - America. It would be difficult. It is home to many heroes who will rise to its defense. Moreover, the Bifrost is controlled by his enemies in occupied Asgard. The enchanted Mjölnir can open small portals, but major troop movements would require a more conventional invasion - with ships.
With his fleet of space skiffs prepared, Thor boards the Skíðblaðnir. His allies from Jotunheim, Nidavelir, and Alfheim assembled, he decrees: Military targets only, no harm to civilians. Their first target is the hub of America’s power, the headquarters of their defense... the Pentagon! But this is the very place where Thor’s half-brother Balder the Brave strategizes with General Thunderbolt Ross - and Thor is as yet unaware of the enchantment that makes Balder invulnerable!
Plus, Lady Sif took it upon herself to establish a forward operating base for the Aesir on the island of Bermuda - but Mockingbird plans to deny Asgard a foothold near America’s shore! Only one woman can get what she wants...

“O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?”
As Thor’s forces clash with those of the United States on Midgard, other players in the multi-realm contest move their pieces around the board.
Freyja, the “Traitor Queen” and leader of the Vanir, still occupies the throne of Asgard. Her beloved son, Balder, is the only child she conceived during wedlock with the deposed Odin... thus, the throne’s rightful heir and, in her plans, the next King of Asgard. Balder’s bastard half-brother Thor is the most obvious threat to those plans, with his adopted brother, the mongrel Loki, a distant second. Yet, there is still another with a claim to the throne out there: Odin’s first son, Vidar... the God of Vengeance.
Before Odin became King, he fathered Vidar with the frost giantess Grid. Despite his lineage, the reclusive Vidar wanted nothing to do with his royal family. Instead, he set up a small homestead on the Fields of Idavoll, where he is believed to remain to this day in self-imposed exile. But what if he changes his mind? Freyja can’t take that chance... and sends her assassins. But has she awoken a sleeping giant?
Meanwhile, newborns Magni and Modi Thorson and their pet, the newly hatched reincarnation of Fing Fang Foom, remain in the safest place that their father could provide for them... Jotunheim’s Utgard Palace. But at times like these, nowhere is truly safe. Would the Draugr lord and former King of Vanaheim, the undead Frey, dare attack children in this war? Does Frey’s hatred of the long-dead Bor extend to the former Aesir King’s innocent great-grandchildren?

CIVIL WAR Epilogue
“WHAT’S SO CIVIL ABOUT WAR, ANYWAY?”
The Civil War is over. King Thor has made peace with the Americans and persuaded them to withdraw from their alliance with his treacherous step-mother Freyja. Yet, this was not without cost...
Recovered from his near-fatal stabbing, the former All-Father and King of Asgard, Odin, grapples with the radical actions of his son and successor. In granting all Nine Realms independence, Thor casually cast millennia of blood and effort to the wind. Odin fought wars to bring the Realms together under his rule so that he could protect and shape them as a benevolent monarch. Now, left to their own devices without a strong guiding hand, surely they will fall into chaos, disarray, and disharmony. His son, poisoned by American mysticism, doesn’t understand this. But he will. “Thor... I would have words with thee!”
On Midgard, General “Thunderbolt” Ross’ support for Freyja and his ill-advised violent clash with Captain America resulted in the President delivering two fateful words: “You’re fired!” With his biggest detractor now out of authority, Bruce Banner can finally begin to contemplate what he had dared not dream of during his two years of exile... the possibility of returning home! But is Earth ready for the Hulk? And is the Hulk ready to leave the new life he’s made amongst the Asgardian refugees?
Meanwhile, Freyja’s forces now span a mere three Realms. She’s at her weakest point since launching her coup d'état... but a cornered animal is when it’s most dangerous. In her desperation, she will beseech a cosmic entity... and the In-Betweener will answer!

“OFF BASE”
The events of CIVIL WAR tore at the bonds between Asgard and Midgard... but now King Thor seeks to reestablish them, stronger than ever before.
In conjunction with Captain America and the United States military, Thor establishes Fort Kirby - a joint U.S./Asgard outpost built within the excavated bones of Jörmungandr, the monstrous Midgard Serpent whom Thor slew centuries ago in what is now modern day Greenland. This base, he hopes, will allow champions from the two Realms to work in greater unison against potential threats and avenge themselves upon their mutual enemies. But who could lead such a venture?
Dr. Bruce Banner is making himself nervous... and he doesn’t like himself when he’s nervous. He’s lived off-world for over two years, banished from his home planet due to an out-of-control Hulk rampage. He was too dangerous to stay. But after the Civil War, and his help saving the lives of every member of the experimental Gamma Force, there is a new spirit of good will towards the Hulk and his puny human counterpart. That’s why Thor believes he can lead Fort Kirby’s mission... but can Banner live up to the faith a god has in him?
That faith will be put to the ultimate test with Fort Kirby’s first unexpected guest: the In-Betweener! A cosmic entity representing the balance between order and chaos, the In-Betweener has always been fascinated with Banner due to his uniquely dichotomous nature. Yet he’s also the one that triggered the chaotic Hulk rampage that forced Banner to ask Odin for sanctuary in the first place (as revealed wayyy back in THE MIGHTY THOR #2!). What does the In-Betweener want, and is history about to repeat itself just as Banner was beginning to reclaim a portion of his life?

“TWILIGHT OF MIDGARD”
Before he ascended to kingship, Thor Odinson was long-regarded as the protector of Midgard. As a young god, he cared for its mortals. He never stopped caring, even during the painful events of “Civil War.” Now he learns that all life on Midgard may be eradicated. The realm has just one more day...
His first thoughts turn to evacuation, but how? And to where? The Asgardian Throne no longer controls the Nine Realms, to whom he granted Independence. He no longer has any power to order any Realm to accept the humans, nor would he be comfortable in unilaterally assigning such a burden. After all, it was Odin’s decision to house Troll refugees on Vanaheim that started the Götterdämmerung War that still rages. So what can he do?
Tales say that the first mortal man and woman, Ask and Embla, were found by Odin and his brothers on Midgard and gifted with life, intelligence, and senses. From those two sprang forth all of humanity.
Thor may not be able to save everyone on Midgard, but he can at least save a couple like Ask and Embla... and bring them to a new world to rebuild their race. The question remains, however, who on Earth is worthy of such a gift? Make your choice when you purchase the book:

“HOMECOMING”
The time has come. The Realm Eternal will be reclaimed. For over two years, the treacherous All-Mother Freyja has sat upon a stolen throne (see THE MIGHTY THOR #10). This day, King Thor leads a coalition of the willing - Aesir, light elves, dwarves, frost giants, trolls, and men - to take back his ancestral home! FOR ASGARD!
Balder the Brave is a god of two Realms. A true son of Odin, he was also born of Freyja - unlike his half-brothers, Thor and Vidar, or the adopted frost giant, Loki. With blood that is both Asgardian Aesir and Vanir, Balder’s mother saw him as the true future of the gods and gifted him with his own enchanted uru weapon. He is her champion - her cause’s great defender. Yet with their enemies at the gate, Balder’s vaunted bravery will be put to the ultimate test. He must face the Mighty Thor in battle. Brother against brother... to the death. Will he land the killing blow? Or has he been on the wrong side the entire time?
Unbeknownst to Thor, Freyja enchanted not just Balder’s weapon, but his entire body. And a powerful enchantment it was! No object can harm him! None, save for one. His only weakness: mistletoe. But nobody knows that... right?

“THE TRIAL OF THE ALL-MOTHER” part one “A SUMMONING OF JURORS”
For years it has raged, but at long last the Götterdämmerung War is seemingly at its end. The Asgardian exiles have returned to their Realm, and King Thor now sits upon the Throne - the so-call “All-Mothrer,” Freyja, deposed. The question yet remains, however... what does Thor do with his wicked step-mother?
Thor’s instinct is to execute her for treason, righteous retribution for all the lives lost in the war she instigated. Yet Sif advises him that execution risks making Freyja a martyr to Vanaheim and others that followed her. As such, Thor stays his hand. On this occasion justice must be meted out properly... with a trial!
But how can impartial jurors be found when the Götterdämmerung War touched all Nine Realms? And what Frost Giant, Elf, or Troll would have the temerity to sit in judgment of the usurper Queen of the Gods?
A dark elf from Svartalfheim, Ráð Slimetongue, has offered his services as defense counsel for Freyja. This infamously well-read scholar is said to spin lies more convincingly than a spider spins silk. The chosen prosecutor will have to be doubly cunning... who else could fill the roll but the God of Lies himself? Loki Laufeyson, for the People of the Nine Realms!
Meanwhile, one Realm yet remains interested in fighting the War. Niffleheim, and it’s undead Draugr, yet serve their king, Thrain - who in life, was the Vanir Frey. He’ll not see the vile Asgardians sit in judgment over his daughter merely for resisting her oppressors. Not as long as he un-lives...

“THE TRIAL OF THE ALL-MOTHER” part two “WRATH OF THE DRAUGR KING”
The god of lies, Loki, serves as prosecutor. He trades stinging barbs in legalese with Ráð Slimetongue, a dark elf defense attorney of ill repute. The eclectic jurors, a smattering or species from all Nine Realms, listen with rapt attention as King Thor, uncharacteristically quiet and detached, overseas the proceedings. The “Traitor Queen,” the former All-Mother Frigga, born and reborn as Freyja, stands on trial for high crimes: treason, attempted genocide, attempted regicide, and attempted mariticide to name but a few. Yet her betrayal did not spring forth from a vacuum... and none understand this better than her father.
He was born Frey of Asgard. He became a leader of gods when his mentor, Njord, was killed by Bor and his people were exiled to Vanaheim. Over time, they became strong. They became Vanir. Then came Bor’s son, Odin, with an uncompromising vision to reunite the gods under his rule. And so, Frey warred with Odin. It was a war he could not win. To end the conflict, his daughter Freyja acquiesced to Odin’s plan for divine unity. She wed the All-Father, becoming Frigga, and Frey himself was cast out from both Vanaheim and Asgard. In the cold wastelands of Niffleheim, he struggled and suffered and eventually found death... but also rebirth. Afflicted by the curse of unlife, he became Thrain the Draugr King! And he did gather his legions. Gods, elves, trolls, men... their mortal rivalries set aside when raised as “again-walkers” and suborned to his will. With his newfound power, he formed alliances and reached out to his daughter, instigating a revolution. The Götterdämmerung War was his vision. His legacy. And he would not see it end in defeat! For he has one final card to play...
Thor was quiet and detached at the trial because he wasn’t there. It was an illusion. The real Thor was transported to Niffleheim, alongside his now estranged father, the born-again wanderer Odin. These two would pay. These two against an entire frozen world of the undead, outnumbered by hundreds of thousands. For now the wretched Aesir leaders will face the ultimate wrath of the Draugr King!

“THE TRIAL OF THE ALL-MOTHER” part three “VERDICT”
The jury has deliberated and the verdict is in. The former All-Mother Freyja... is guilty on all counts! Now, it falls upon King Thor to issue a sentence upon his wicked stepmother. But what will it be? Banishment? Imprisonment? ...Death? Surely Freyja’s treasonous coup merits no less than the ultimate penalty.
As Thor contemplates retributive justice, he’s visited by an unexpected guest offering sage advice; the kind only a mother can provide. One of the few remaining Elder Gods, progenitor of pantheons and Mother Earth herself: Gaea arrives in Asgard to beg her bastard son for leniency. Thor, however, has little affection for his absentee parent, especially as she now advocates mercy towards the fiend who started a war in which she did not fight.
Gaea makes points he already considered: the fear of creating a Vanir martyr, the mitigating circumstances attendant to historical injustices Freyja suffered, the fact that she raised him, etc. Yet one point, her real point, grabs Thor’s attention. They’ll need the Realms that fought with Freyja as allies - for the Götterdämmerung War weakened Yggdrasil, creating certain vulnerabilities that another Elder God might exploit...
Elsewhere, Balder the Brave emerged from the rubble that his half-brother Thor buried him under (see THE MIGHTY THOR #26). Yet having fought on the losing side of a war, he has nowhere to go and no friends left to turn to - none, save the severed head of Malekith the Accursed. The elven skull has taken to talking to him, telling him things that even the living Malekith couldn’t know. Things like, how to complete the (almost) invulnerability spell that his mother Freyja cast upon him. Balder is told he his answers lie within a certain book... a book called the Darkhold... a book authored by the Elder God Chthon! With nothing else to quest for, Balder sets out to find it...

Thor has been negated. In his place, Dr. Donald Blake dons the Destroyer armor in a valiant effort to defend Asgard alongside Sif and the Realm’s other champions. But where did Thor go upon his negation? That’s what the God of Souls, Ond, quests to discover…
The Nine Realms have a dark mirror - a grim inversion of the “World Tree” Yggdrasil that binds Realms together. It is called K’lay, and connects worlds with names like Dhampiraj, Varúlfur, Allograft, and Yacuran. Whereas the gods of Yggdrasil, as well as Olympus and Heliopolis, trace their origins to the Elder Goddess Gaea, the gods of K’lay descend from her brother… author of the Darkhold, the corrupted Elder God Chthon.
K’lay is both Chthon’s home and his prison, having been banished there over a billion years ago following a war amongst the Elder Gods. His influence has subtly escaped on occasions, resulting in the creation of Earthly werewolves and vampires and the like. But in K’lay, his influence abounds… as do his Horror Gods.
Possessed of great stealth, Ond finds himself sneaking through corridors of K’Lay’s Darque Hold: a nightmarish analogue to Asgard’s Royal Palace. In its dungeons… there is Thor. But can Ond liberate his King from this Other-Realm imprisonment? Is there anything left to liberate?
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Ond, he was followed. Balder the Brave, disgraced after siding with the Traitor Queen Freyja and urged on by impossible whispers from the skull of the slain Malekith, has been searching for K’Lay for some time. Yet now Gaea worries… for her brother, the wicked Elder God Chthon, invoked a rite that could see him liberated from his long imprisonment in the “world tree” of K’lay: Immortal Combat.
Gaea informs her son Thor that, to meet this threat, he’ll need to forge an alliance with other members of the second generation of gods. Specifically, the Olympians. This poses a problem, for bad blood remains from long ago… from the Pantheon War that an impetuous young Thor may have started…
1616 B.C. Odin asserts claim to Midgard, choosing the Northlanders of Europe to receive Asgard’s grace. His ravens, however, whisper that other gods already have a foothold on the continent. To the south, in Greece, the Sky-Father Zeus and his kin hold sway, with access to Earth via a portal atop Mount Olympus.
If these Olympians seek expansion, it could could pose a problem. Someone must convince them - diplomatically - to remain where they are. Odin selects his young sons, Thor and Loki, to do so. What could go wrong?
Now. The exiled half-brother of Thor, Balder the Brave, found his way to K’lay - and was brought before the unholy master of the Dark World Tree. At the behest of his mother, Thor arrives in Olympus. His quest: to forge an alliance between the Greek and Norse gods necessary to defeat the elder god Chthon. Yet when All-Father Thor meets Sky-Father Zeus, old memories render the encounter volatile…
1616 B.C. A young Thor and Loki were sent by Odin to secure Midgard’s Northlands against Olympian influence. It didn’t go well. Ares counseled Zeus to immediately go to war. Zeus heeded other advice. Now, Thor “God of Thunder” Odinson, with Loki in his corner, finds himself in a wrestling match for control of the European continent against “the Lion of Olympus,” “the Prince of Power,” the undefeated 12-time Labor champion and he who put the “glad” in gladiator: Hercules! Can Thor possibly hope to best the god that literally invented pankration when they meet inside an adamantine cage!?. And how will this good-natured contest of skill… go horribly wrong?
Today. Chthon personally gives his guest, Balder the Brave, a tour of the Nine Realms that make up the Dark World Tree of K’Lay. The first: Dhampiraj. This dark, gothic world is populated by Chthon’s most loyal creations: the Ampir, from whom all the Earthly strains of vampirism are bastardized. The gods of the South marched on the gods of the North - with the Midgardian continent of Europe caught between an unstoppable force and an immovable object.
Thor versus Hercules II, this time for real. Loki versus Ares. Zeus versus Odin. These titanic battles and many more will shake the Realm. In the end, only one Pantheon could be left standing… but which one?
Meanwhile, in the current year, Balder continues his grim tour of Chthon’s Dark World Tree. He’d already visited the vampiric realm of Dhampiraj and seen the horrible flesh golems of Allograft. “PANTHEON WAR” part four “REVERBERATIONS”
The year was 1616 B.C., and the Earth shook when gods collided: the Norse Pantheon (Odin, Thor, Loki, etc.) versus the Greek Pantheon (Zeus, Ares, Hercules, etc.). It was a battle for dominance waged in Europe, though it threatened to engulf the entire mortal world in thunder and lightning. The conflict was so massive that it brought forth none other than Mother Earth herself.
The elder goddess, Gaea, respected by both sides, called upon the younger gods to cease their warfare. The hotheads refused. Gaea, however, wasn’t asking. Thor’s mother would prove from whence he inherited his true strength… and the Pantheon War would end!
Today, Thor and Zeus finalize an alliance. In Gaea’s name, the two Pantheons will work together to address the threat posed by Gaea’s dark brother, Chthon, who has been reinvigorated following the Negation Wave. But what is this “Immortal Combat” that Chthon invoked? (See THE MIGHTY THOR #33). Gaea must finally tell them…
Meanwhile, Balder’s tour of the realms of Chthon’s Dark World Tree continues. On black Yacuran, lagoon creatures rule. Yacura eggs gestate within a host and, when hatched, take on the characteristics of said host. As such, their gods sprang forth from the corpses of other gods. And as is often the way of gods, they and their proxies did war upon each other. And in those wars that often eradicated worlds, Gaea’s faction was losing. Gaea feared for the nascent life growing in Earth’s primordial oceans. To protect that life, from it Gaea birthed the first of the new generation of gods: Atum. So mighty were Atum’s deeds in Gaea’s name that he became known as Demogorge the God-Eater - the one being in all existence that could spark fear in Chthon’s black heart.
Rather than continue a war that had lasted millions of years and cost both sides dearly, Gaea and Chthon came to an agreement: a tournament of martial prowess among divine beings was to be held. Gaea’s spawn against Chthon’s, winner take the universe!
In the end, of all the competitors, Gaea’s champion Atum was the final warrior standing. K’Lay, Chthon’s Dark World Tree, was banished with its master into a hidden dimension, to remain forevermore unless Gaea’s offspring ever transgressed and set foot upon K’Lay’s soil. If that should occur, another Immortal Combat tournament would be held.
It occurred when Thor was accidentally sent to K’Lay during the Negation event (see THE MIGHTY THOR #32).
Now, a new tournament of fighting gods is to be held… but Atum is missing. Can Thor and Hercules find and recruit him in time?

“WHERE IN THE REALMS IS ATUM?”
Chthon’s monstrous pantheon prepares itself for Immortal Combat. Gaea, in turn, has tasked Thor and Hercules with assembling her “God Squad.” Their top draft pick is the winner of the previous (and only) Immortal Combat Tournament: Gaea’s first son and the first of the new generation of gods, Atum.
Over the millennia, Atum had many names, not the least of which were Demogorge the God-Eater… and Amon Ra! Thor and Hercules thus decide to travel to Heliopolis, home of the Egyptian gods whom Atum largely sired and once ruled. There they find not Atum, but the jackal-headed Anubis!
The Egyptian God of Death poses both a unique question and challenge. The question: do Gaea’s descendants deserve their freedom more than Chthon’s? The challenge: Thor and Hercules weigh their hearts on Anubis’ scale against a feather of righteousness. If lighter, Anubis will fight alongside them. If heavier, as burdened with ill-intent, then their souls belong to Anubis forevermore. Are the heroes up to the challenge? Or will they just smash the scales?
Meanwhile, in K’Lay, Balder the Brave concludes his tour of the Dark World Tree. Chthon arranged for Balder to see all the grim Realms and encounter their rulers: the Horror Gods. Balder’s exalted bravery was put to the test, as he bore witness to the the vampiric Ampir gods of Dhampiraj; the Alpha gods from the werewolf packs of Varúlfur; the stitched-together Franken-deities of Allograft; the gods from the blackest lagoons of Yacuran; and the unseen, invisible gods of Iping. His final destination is Chthon’s own seat of power: a floating world-fortress known as the Darque Hold. Balder wonders what will become of him as he’s brought before the throne. But once there, he sees the unexpected. Seated at the right hand of Chthon… is Atum!?!

“IMMORTAL COMBAT” part one “SO IT BEGINS…”
The challenge has been issued. The fighters from each side have been assembled. On a neutral realm somewhere in space and time, it’s Gaea’s champions versus those of Chthon. The winners’ godly descendants earn their freedom; the losers are banished to a prison dimension.
You already know many of Gaea’s champions. Thor. Loki. Odin. Hercules. Zeus. Ares. Anubis.
Chthon’s assemblage is equally imposing, comprised of Horror Gods from the realms of his Dark Work Tree. Among them: the All-Sire Vanthirius, ruler of the vampire gods of Dhampiraj; Alpha Prime, godly pack-leader of the werewolves of Varúlfur; Dr. Demogag’s Monster, a flesh-golem comprised of the stitched-together remains of the most powerful gods of Allograft; and Black Amphibious, first god-spawn from the lagoons of Yacuran.
But most surprising among Chthon’s loyalists is a betrayer. Gaea’s own son and once her greatest champion, slayer of malevolent elder gods and winner of the previous Immortal Combat, Thor’s older and first half-brother: Atum fights now for Chthon! But why? And can even Thor defeat the God-Eater?
And whose side is Balder on, anyway?

“IMMORTAL COMBAT” part two “MORTAL WOUNDS”
The battles of Immortal Combat have been fierce, with many deities from both sides perishing or being injured such that they cannot continue. Gaea’s remaining champions are all that stands between our universe and the Dark Worlds governed by the elder god that functionally created black magic: Chthon!
In the end, it comes down to two children of Gaea. Her loyal son by Odin, the god of Thunder and king of Asgard: the Mighty Thor, versus her betrayer son by the Demiurge, her first child, known as Amon Ra, the God-Eater, the Demogorge: Atum. And in a shocking turn of events, after a hellacious battle… Thor loses and is consumed by the God-Eater!
THOR. IS. DEAD!
Chthon has won Immortal Combat and gained freedom for the Dark World Tree known as K’Lay, no longer banished to a prison dimension. Worlds of unholy monsters - vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein-style flesh golems, and more - are unleashed. Chthon ascends to oust Gaea from her position as “Mother Earth.” And Midgard’s greatest protector is gone.

“ABANDON ALL HOPE…”
The King is dead. The Kingdom is lost.
Thor has fallen, swallowed by Atum the Demogorge. Monsters are unleashed as part of Fear Itself, and our gods - and seemingly any hope for salvation - are banished. Asgard, along with Olympus and Heliopolis, have been transported into the prison dimension once occupied by Chthon - trapped as captive realms in the Dark World Tree of K’Lay. In this time of unfathomable crisis, who will step up and lead in Thor’s absence?
Gaea, Mother Earth, whose powers are all but gone due to being separated from her home planet?
All-Mother Queen Sif, now a widow, struggling to protect Asgard and her two-year-old children, Princes Magni and Modi Thorson?
Loki, the trickster who sees an opportunity to be a hero?
Former All-Father Odin, who yielded his power in what he may now view as a mistake?
Former All-Mother Freyja, languishing in prison for treason, who may see this as an opportunity to attain release?
Hercules, the Olympian seeking to prove himself as worthy a hero as Thor? Ares, the war god with the same goal?
Or… Atum, Thor’s half-brother and slayer. He ruled Heliopolis as Ra before disappearing. He is the only one able to pass in and out of K’Lay, but why did he side with his uncle Chthon over his mother, Gaea? Why did he enable Chthon to unleash Fear Itself? And does he now regret his actions… or will he double down and attempt to eat the rest of Asgard while the eating is good?

“HELIOCENTRIC”
He is the slayer of Thor and the deity that made the liberation of Chthon and his Horror Gods possible. But why the first son of Gaea, Atum, turned on his own mother has been a mystery… until now!
Atum was born with a purpose: to stop the elder gods, most of whom had largely degenerated into corrupt, malevolent demons. Yet as he defeated and devoured them (the only sure way to kill a god), he metabolized their evil. He became… the Demogorge! He always lamented this change.
When the vast majority of elder gods were gone, Atum tried something new. Under the name Amon Ra, he begat and ruled a new generation of gods from celestial Heliopolis , worshipped in ancient Egypt and beyond. But still, he felt the compulsion to fulfill the purpose for which he was born. He eventually abandoned his throne and sought out more evil gods to consume. His quest lead him to… K’Lay. The Dark World Tree was a veritable smorgasbord, as Chthon had millennia to cultivate evil divinity therein. It was… overwhelming. Soon, his digestion changed his personality. It made him open to Chthon’s influence. As the ancient adage goes, “you are what you eat.”
And then he ate Thor, the greatest godly hero of our time. Was it enough for Atum to regain the perspective he lost? Within him, what little remains of Thor wages war against an ocean of godly villainy. Is it enough?

“FRUIT OF THE POISONOUS TREE”
Trapped in K’Lay, Asgard and the other godly realms are more imperiled than ever! With Chthon’s death, his many fiendish creations that infest the Dark World Tree are no longer bound by his will. Arboreal monstrosities now run rampant, including Terrrormites: giant termite-like creatures that Chthon used to manage waste. Unshackled, they’ve gained a taste for godflesh! Queen Sif, Hercules, and other divine would-be exterminators fight back - but these bugs are relentless!
Lacking options, Loki turns to his imprisoned stepmother. The treasonous Freyja had read the Darkhold; it was infamously where she learned the spell to make Balder nearly invulnerable. She claims to know the Terrormite subjugation spell that kept them in line… Loki just has to let her out and she’ll tell him!
Meanwhile, with the help of the Midnight Sons, Atum has fled back to Asgard after consuming Chthon. Since being inspired by a time-traveling Captain America millennia ago, Atum always strove to fight evil. Consuming so much of it, though, threw off his natural balance. When he ate Thor, the hero’s inherent goodness restored Atum to his senses - enough for him to turn on Chthon. But now, having eaten the ultimate evil, Atum can feel himself being corrupted from within. His mother, Gaea, one of the last of the Elder Gods, feels this too. She has but one solution to save her son’s soul and forever allow him to remain “good” as her other son, Thor, always was…
“Eat me.”

“MOTHER FEAR”
The sacrifice has been made. To save her son Atum from corruption after he consumed the evil elder god Chthon, Gaea agreed to be consumed herself. As perhaps the final elder god, Gaea’s death restored Atum’s internal balance forever. Yet there must always be a Mother Nature…
Before she went, Gaea transferred her power into a mighty artifact: the Earth Crown. Gaea’s final instructions were to place the crown on the head of her daughter-in-law, recently widowed in the wake of her son Thor’s death: the current All-Mother of Asgard, Sif. But during the transfer ceremony, a former All-Mother intervenes! Oops, maybe Loki miscalculated when he freed Freyja from imprisonment in the last issue - for now the Betrayer Queen may steal the power and become the new Mother Nature! Can Sif, Odin, and the other gods stop this from happening?
Meanwhile, the exiled Balder the Brave returns to Asgard (though perhaps at an inopportune moment, as his mother is currently battling the Royal Family…). Seeking redemption, he has a plan to liberate Asgard and the other godly spheres, Olympus and Heliopolis, from the grasp of the Dark World Tree’s vile branches forever… and to burn K’Lay down to its roots!

“EPILOGUE ITSELF”
The hero of FEAR ITSELF has emerged… and it’s Balder the Brave! He lead the Midnight Sons and restored Asgard to our universe, helping the Realm escape the grasping branches of K’Lay… and used the Darkhold to burn that Dark World Tree down! Now he formally requests that his sentence of exile, imposed as punishment for siding with his mother Freyja during the Götterdämmerung War, be lifted. But with Thor gone, that request is made to the Thunder God’s widow: Queen Sif. Will she have mercy? Perhaps, if Balder can complete one more quest…
The first of the younger gods, Atum, has had his morality restored following Gaea’s noble sacrifice - but he is deeply ashamed of his unforgivable actions while compromised: he slayed Thor and freed Chthon! Although Atum was ultimately the one to also kill Chthon, that act was not enough to balance the scales. He now desperately seeks redemption. Will Balder work with Atum to obtain it for the both of them?
The two heroes-turned-villains-turned-heroes-again embark on the quest bestowed by Sif: to force the escaped monsters and Horror Gods of Dhampiraj, Varúlfur, Allograft, Iping, and Yacuran back into their respective Realms and contain them there… or otherwise send them to Hel. Can they clean up the mess of FEAR ITSELF?
Hercules doesn’t think so… and doesn’t trust either of them. He’ll be watching them closely and looking for any excuse to break them in half!

“FILLING THE VOID”
Eddaic Neopaganism, a.k.a. the ”Church of Thor,” was a religion on the rise…. until the press branded its adherents extremists. This was because an Eddaic Neopagan, viewing the United States’ war against Asgard as heretical (see the now classic AOM event CIVIL WAR), tried to assassinate General Thunderbolt Ross (way back in THE MIGHTY THOR #16). That radical, a former Norse nurse turned political activist named Thorlief Golmen, failed… but was never apprehended.
Now, in the wake of Thor’s death, Golmen’s faith is shaken. He knows someone must step up to fill his fallen god’s role as Midgard’s sworn protector… and none but Golmen himself is worthy. And, lo, Thorlief breaks into the European Defense Initiative and steals technological tools intended to replicate Thor’s power: Megingjörð, the belt of strength; Járngreipr, the iron gauntlets; and a would-be Mjölnir, the mighty hammer. But will Golmen use this equipment wisely? Would any zealot?
“Hann spennir sik megingjörðum, ok óx honum ásmegin!”
Sif, now widowed Queen of Asgard and All-Mother, struggles to refortify her Realm after the disastrous events of Fear Itself while also lending support to others… such as the hard-hit Midgard. “WEDNESDAY”
Odin, once All-Father of Asgard and King of the Nine Realms, is now a one-eyed, homeless wanderer and his only companion is Sleipnir, his eight-legged steed. How did it come to this?
When he first took his seat on the golden throne millennia ago, Odin swore an oath to rule with wisdom, return goodness with good, and deliver unfailing justice. He failed to do so. In fact, he now understands that it was his mistakes that caused the Götterdämmerung War between gods… where his own wife tried to murder him at his son’s wedding (see THE MIGHTY THOR #10). Odin glimpsed death, yet lived. Though after being pierced by Freyja’s blade, he was never the same. He abdicated in favor of Thor (see THE MIGHTY THOR #17), who did eventually end the War that Odin caused. Yet in the new Asgard that Thor ruled, Odin had no place. He was a relic; an anachronism from a bygone era. He had to leave.
Now he wanders the Nine Realms as a vagrant in a quest for humility… a lesson he once taught his son. But can he teach another mortal this lesson at the same time? Thorlief Golmen is a religious fanatic that stole powerful super-equipment from the European Defense Initiative. He declared himself the new “Thor.” But “Thor” is not a title, it is a name - the name that Odin and the late earth-mother Gaea gave to their son. And, even as a lowly wanderer, Odin will not suffer lightly that name being used by the unworthy…

Prelude to World War Z!
“TAKEN FROM ASGARD”
Overlooked. Ignored. Disrespected. For centuries, Amora the Enchantress believed herself to be both the most beautiful and mystically-gifted seductress in Asgard. Yet the Prince of the Realm, Thor, stubbornly and persistently refused her affections. Now Amora sees Thor’s widow, Sif, sitting upon Asgard’s throne as Queen and All-Mother… and it should have been her!
This is Amora’s opportunity to enact jealous revenge, for Sif is distracted by a pretender from Midgard and her misbegotten children, Magni and Modi Thorson, are left relatively unprotected on their third birthday (can you believe it’s been three years since their birth in THE MIGHTY THOR #13?). None question a visit from their grandfather Odin, the former All-Father turned wanderer. Little does anyone know, Odin has fallen under Amora’s mind-control spell! On Sleipnir, he spirits the boys of thunder away… and directly into Amora’s clutches!
Amora intends to present them to a real champion of Midgard: a man that is both self-made and of noble blood; a man who practices the proper respect for Teutonic Deities, who appreciates her gifts of mental subjugation, and who can teach Magni and Modi the true and oft forgotten ways of a Northman warrior. This man is Midgard’s undisputed master of evil…

“ON MIDGARD, AS IT IS IN HEL”
Baron Zemo has not only usurped control of the United States, he’s also usurped custody of Magni and Modi Thorson!
As Zemo sees it, the Teutonic Gods were once the patron deities of conquering vikings and berserkers. They brought strength and power to every region that worshipped them. Then weak Latin Christianity spread like a creeping disease throughout Europe. Ironically, this caused even the gods themselves to lose their way and become feeble. Odin could not even maintain control over the Nine Realms, and his shameful heir Thor granted them each independence. Pathetic! Zemo will personally remind the gods what it means to be Aryan. With the Enchantress (or is that the “Emerald Witch”?) by his side, he will raise Thor’s twins to be true heroes - like the Baron himself!
In Valhalla, a thunderous cry shakes the very foundations of the afterlife: “ZEMOOOOOOOO!!!!” The All-Father King Thor fell in battle nine months ago (see THE MIGHTY THOR #41) and Asgard has been attempting to pick up the pieces ever since. Yet now the unthinkable has happened. A mad villain has kidnapped his beloved sons and plots to warp their young, impressionable minds with a vile and corrupt ideology. Thor says thee nay! He will defy death itself to ensure this does not happen!
Seeing no other choice, Thor seeks audience with the ruler of Hel: the goddess of death, Hela! Fortunately for Thor (or perhaps unfortunately), Hela is eager to bargain and more than willing to restore Thor to life so that he can combat Zemo on Midgard. In return, she has but a few “small” demands. What does she want - and is Thor willing to pay the price?

And woe be unto those who stand in his way… the first of whom being the Redeemer “Brawn” - a beefy brick with an attitude named Daniel Axum! Beware, Axum, for this time, Thor’s going for the head!
The god of thunder, however, is not alone in attempting to rescue the Thorson boys: their mother, Queen Sif, is personally questing to save them! But when she encounters Thor, she learns an unpleasant truth: their vows were “to death do we part,” and Thor died…Her marriage is over, and the vile Hela made sure of that by demanding Thor impregnate her with a worthy heir in exchange for returning him to Midgard! Can the bonds of the Asgardian royal family survive this dramatic turn of events?
Meanwhile, Zemo and his “Emerald Witch” Amora continue their indoctrination of the young Magni and Modi. They’ve been teaching the Asgardian kids how to fight and slay their enemies without mercy… and now they’ve arranged a test!
“Mockingbird” Bobbi Morse was captured by the Redeemers. She now finds herself, a mere peak-human, locked in an arena with the three-year-old gods of strength and wrath - both of whom have been instructed by Zemo and Amora to kill her! Thor arrives in Washington D.C. to see his friend Steve Rogers both alive and fighting their mutual enemies! Ares, an Olympian god with whom Thor has extensive history, threw his lot in with Zemo and hijacked Steve’s mantle… but Thor says thee nay! Flushed with the Odin Force and new power attained during his recent resurrection - he rips the Olympian war god in twain!
With strength from Hel still pulsating hot within his veins, Thor looks at where he is: Washington, D.C. America’s seat of power. It reminds him of the last time he was there, when Asgard warred with the United States (see the now classic event CIVIL WAR). Twice, now, the Midgardian nation had been usurped by corrupt leaders that threatened his people. He is so close… should not Thor claim the White House himself? Should not he lead America on the proper course and prevent it from going further astray? Is this not what is best? Or is this the Hel energy influencing Thor’s perception? If Steve Rogers (holding a borrowed Mjolnir) can’t talk him down, will there be another Civil War?
And just when a clear-headed Thor is needed most, Baron Zemo returns with an army enhanced by god-like Sharzhadi technology!

“SUICIDE BY GOD”
With Sharzhadi weapons and armor rendered inert and smashed to pieces all around him, Thor feels confident that Midgard (or, at least, America) has mostly righted itself. He will not need to conquer the United States - not as long as Steve Rogers is it’s champion. Yet he returned from Hel for this, and his lust for vengeance must be satiated. Zemo kidnapped his sons, and Thor will have their location… or he will have Zemo’s head!
In Thor’s rage, a shackled and defeated Zemo sees an opportunity to avoid standing trial for his crimes. Perhaps where pulling the trigger of a Sharzhadi gun held to his own head failed, goading an angry god would succeed?
“Your misbegotten offspring are dead, Asgardian swine! The taint you left on their genes made them useless to me. I killed them myself!”
Can the other Avengers prevent a public execution and stop Thor from giving Zemo what he wants?
Meanwhile, Mockingbird and the very-much-alive twins of thunder (Magni and Modi Thorson) flee the wrath of a vengeful Emerald Witch: Amora, the Enchantress. Their explosive efforts to escape draw Asgardian attention… but not that of Thor. Instead, it’s mom to the rescue! All-Mother Queen Sif finally locates her children, and if she must, she’ll carve Amora in half to save them!

“THE GOD OF ANTIQUITY”
Over 1000 years ago…
They were the Vikings: the mightiest of norsemen, destined to conquer the unworthy. And he was their patron god: Thor, the thunderer - a deity who would not merely passively listen to prayers but who would fight side-by-side with his worshippers! He marched with them across Northumbria, capturing York and triumphing over England’s Black Knight. He sailed with them up the Seine to defeat the King of Franks, Charlemagne, and his paladins. He defended Svíþjóð from invading Curonians alongside King Sigurd Hring the Dragonslayer. He did all this, and then... Ragnarök.
Now.
Thor awakens in 2023, his last memory a seemingly fatal trade-of-blows with Jörmungandr the World Serpent. But that was… so long ago. Did he die? If so, how does he live once more? The stars tell him he is on Midgard, yet everything has changed. His home, the godly realm of Asgard, is unreachable. He feels in his bones that his people, the Aesir, are all dead. Even his worshippers, the Vikings, have abandoned him and their faith, consigning both to mere mythology. What will he do now? There seems to be no place for a Viking God in the modern world. Can the man who revived him, Dr. Donald Blake, help him find his way?
Meanwhile, news of Thor’s seeming rebirth sends ripples through the world’s clandestine power structure. In the centuries since Thor’s “death,” the offspring of Jörmungandr - reptilian humanoid shapeshifters - have formed an influential and secret illuminati to manipulate human events… and this Serpent Society wants their ancient enemy Thor to stay dead!
