GOTHAM’S DAWN
The war on crime knows no limits for Batman and his soldiers!

THE BATMAN #4
Written by ED BRUBAKER
Plot by GLOBAL HONORED
Art by BRIAN BOLLAND
"SOUL OF A CITY"
Word travels fast on the streets of Gotham City. In every bar room and back alley rumors quickly become fact. The latest rumor goes like this - "BATMAN KILLED THE RIDDLER IN COLD BLOOD!" Has the caped crusader gone homicidal? Criminals beware. Next time you run into the famed vigilante, he may not send you to Blackgate or Arkham, he may send you to the morgue.
The Batman makes his rounds through the city, connecting with his closest allies to convince them that the vicious rumor is untrue. He still lives by his code. Criminals should be punished, not murdered. Heroes are not judges. He also warns them that he locked eyes with the man who shot Riddler, and the mysterious man winked at him as if he knew his true identity. If the killer knows Batman's secrets then he may also know his allies' as well. To Batman's surprise, some of his closest crime fighting partners seem disappointed that Batman did not do the deed, and may be open to new, harder ways to stop Gotham's villains permanently. Is Batman's way outdated? Is he losing his grip on the city?
Catwoman is missing. As is Lucius Fox. Their last known location tracks to London, England. And what does this have to do with a threatening letter Alfred Pennyworth just received? Sins of the past aren't always forgotten.
Batman pays a visit to Commissioner Gordon atop Gotham Central Police Station. He notices right away that the Bat Signal is gone. Gordon brings more foreboding news, laying all his cards on the table. As of this morning, his unit has been assigned to investigate the disappearance and suspected murder of The Riddler. And Batman is their prime suspect. Until they can clear his name, Gordon and the GCPD must have no association with the city's legendary protector. Batman, you are good at disappearing, I suggest you do so now.
Arkham Asylum. Dr. Quinn is concerned about her patient, the "John Doe" spree killer. His schizophrenia is running wild and today he seems to be in much physical pain. Thankfully she just left his cell to speak to Jeremiah Arkham about the issue when "John Doe" exploded, taking out the southwest wall with him. The flood gates are open. All personnel, lock it down now. The inmates are lose, protect yourselves. Gotham City just got a little crazier.
On the outskirts of the city, in his secret lair...The Joker laughs. Now, his pets will come to him. Elsewhere, in the darkness, a man named Chill hears the news, cracks a smile and thinks of the possibilities. Fish in a barrel, he says to himself. Fish in a barrel.

Double-sized conclusion to the first story arc!
On Earth-17, there was no Batman and, therefore, no Robin. Instead, the Immortal Man, the hero who moves between life and death as easily as we change subway trains, founded the Team Titans: 16½ year old Atom (III) Ray Palmer, Dove Dawn Granger, Hawk Holly Granger, Koryak, and Terra! And the Team Titans are engaged in their final battle with Brother Blood and his church. Meanwhile, Doc Fate Jared Stevens and the Outsiders defeat Wotan and his associates. While Green Arrows Oliver Queen and Roy Harper oversee the relocation of Vandal Savage and several other villains to a pocket universe, Silverwind, Fury, and Wonder Woman spark the change in momentum that allows the Atoms, Hourmen, and Astral Mage to send the Anti-Matter Man back to his universe. At that same moment, Andromeda, Hawkman, and Green Lantern Alan Scott succeed in taking down the White Blade. “It’s over, son,” says Alan Scott. “You’ve caused enough trouble.” Soon thereafter, the remaining villains, including Brother Blood, are captured and sent to the pocket universe, which leads Roy Harper to remark, “With all the bad guys locked away, the world’s safe, this is the beginning of a new era ….” Just as the White Blade is about to enter the pocket universe, he shouts, “I was telling the truth! We were trying to save you! And now you’re all going to die in the next crisis!”

And since the Queen had nowhere else to go, she tagged along. Back to the the U.S. of A. They'll figure something out. Oh, and that million dollars that Queen Bee promised for their payment, well let's just say the currency conversion rate will make a man tear someone's head off. Maybe not literally but that teller at Bank of America sure will have a hell of a hospital bill. At least twenty grand is better than nothing.
Back in Tampa, Floyd takes them to his bar which also serves as his home, only to find The Dead Spot Saloon boarded up with a foreclosed notice posted on the door. Damnit! How many people do we have to send to I.C.U. today?
This place is dead anyway. How about a change of scenery? If any three miscreants needed that, then here they are. I hear Miami is nice this time of year. First we raid the bar. It'd be a damn shame to leave those rum bottles full.
Miami Beach. Bikini clad girls. Hot cars. World famous clubs. Lots of drugs, guns, criminals and illegals abound. Sounds like heaven. 3 months paid down on a leased beachside office. The only thing left to do is hang the sign. Blake & Lawton Private Investigations Agency -aka- Badmen Inc. Now Open!
