THUNDERBOLTS #0
Written by ALEX DE CAMPI
Plot by H-E-D
Art by GABRIEL HARDMAN & CARMEN CARNERO
Ahead of their explosive debut in CIVIL WAR, meet America’s newest team of “heroes”!
-Col. Helmut Zemo is a seasoned military veteran, previously serving under the direct command of General Thunderbolt Ross. Later, he founded EKO Scorpion, a PMC with a dodgy reputation. Now, he’s about to lead the world’s first private superhero contractor – and his sights are set on something larger than profit…
-Karla Sofen was Zemo’s first recruit for the Thunderbolts. She’d spent her 20’s as a psychiatrist, dogged by rumors that the high rates of suicide and violence in her former patients were the intentional result of her therapy. Growing bored, Dr. Sofen got her hands on her namesake Moonstone by manipulating a patient. Officially, she’s serving her parole from the crime spree that followed by working as Zemo’s personal therapist.
-Melissa Gold never wanted to be a criminal, let alone a supervillain. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Participating in paid medical trials for Roxxon put her on the slippery slope that lead to her becoming sonic-powered Screaming Mimi. Now, Zemo offers her a fresh start as Songbird. But is this just another deal with the devil?
-Accused of a long list of war crimes, and convicted of enough, CPO Cletus Kasady was known in the Marines as Agent Carnage. And that was before he was bonded with an alien symbiote. Freed by a surprise Presidential Pardon, Kasady quickly joined Zemo in the private sector.
-Months ago, EKO Scorpion officers discovered an amnesiac with metal wings. Soon, they realized that he was actually the missing billionaire Warren Worthington III, missing for more than a year By then, however, Subject Archangel had proven such a valuable asset that Zemo made certain to keep the discovery off the books.
-A brilliant scientist and inventor, Dr. Chen Lu (Lu Chen by Western name order) sabotaged his own career by transforming himself into the Radioactive Man. Despite his presence posing no health risk, Dr. Chen found himself completely unhireable. After years of living off less-than-legal scientific work, he’s found himself a place in Zemo’s employ.

“CIVIL WAR TIE-IN!”
With war on the horizon, patriotism is on the rise in the USA. And what’s more American than war profiteering?
General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross might have Captain America on his side, but not under his command.
And so, Ross has given a lucrative contract to a PMC (private military contractor) run by an old war buddy: Colonel Helmut Zemo!
Together, they put together a bold new team of heroes to bring the fight to Asgard!
Following the (plausibly deniable) mandate of their namesake, the Thunderbolts are a force for good to be reckoned with!
As long as they produce results, nobody will look too closely. And Zemo is counting on that, because he and his so-called heroes are anything but heroic!

“CIVIL WAR TIE-IN!”
Wyoming has been conquered by Ulik, lord of the Rock Trolls!
Of course, it’s the least populated state in the Union, so it wasn’t really too difficult.
But the United States can’t be seen letting the American Heartland go undefended — and so General Ross calls in the Thunderbolts!
Their official orders: take the fight to the trolls — especially the tribe known as the Magzi, the most brutal among them — and rescue to people of occupied Wyoming!
Meanwhile, Zemo gives the team off-the-record instructions that put those very people at risk!
Songbird was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It wasn’t a happy childhood — but does that mean she’ll be at peace exploiting her former home?

War is a lucrative business — and not just before the fighting stops.
Zemo has staked in numerous construction firms, oil, gas and mining companies.
The greater the toll of the war, the bigger the windfall for contract-winners during Reconstruction.
Zemo orders the Thunderbolts to maximize collateral damage in taking the fight to the trolls. Towns, nature reserves, Indian reservations, parks; the more the better.
Most of the Thunderbolts understand just fine. A promise of a kickback is all it takes for Moonstone to agree; and Karla can get the amnesiac Archangel to just about anything. For Agent Carnage, destruction is it’s own reward.
But neither Songbird nor Hazmat signed on to the Thunderbolts to commit war crimes. However, Zemo reminds them that he could destroy their lives with a single word.
The Magzi Trolls have occupied the town of Lander, Wyoming; once the Thunderbolts are done with them, will there be anything left standing?

Three cheers for America’s new favorite superteam!
The Thunderbolts have saved Wyoming from the horrible, oppressive Rock Trolls.
Don’t ask questions about the ridiculous levels of collateral damage from the fight – that’s unpatriotic behavior.
Don’t quibble with the size of the rebuilding contracts that have already been promised to Zemo Solutions Inc. – private enterprise is the backbone of the nation!
Definitely don’t share photos of the corpses mutilated by Agent Carnage – you can’t trust pictures these days. The same goes for any so-called sighting of missing billionaire Warren Worthington III.
Any reports that Songbird has taken in a Magzi orphan are categorically false.
Don’t worry America — the era of the Thunderbolts has arrived!

With the war with Asgard at an end – and with General Ross out of power – Zemo faces calls to justify the continued funding of the Thunderbolts. Ross’s replacement, Dallas Riordan, isn’t going to rubberstamp all expenses like Zemo’s old pal did.
Songbird rescued a young orphan of the Magzi, Gunna, in the wreckage of their last mission. Without permission, she saved its life and brought the fierce little thing back with her to Arlington. But how is she supposed to keep a wild half-troll a secret?
Meanwhile, investigative journalist Norah Winters comes knocking with questions about Agent Archangel and his uncanny resemblance to missing billionaire Warren Worthington III. And she’s not the only one. Times like these, Moonstone really regrets signing up to be his personal handler.
Zemo hires the deadly duo known as the Ladykillers to cause a little chaos for the Thunderbolts to solve. But when a disgruntled Damage Control crew finds themselves transformed by Asgardian detritus, there will be plenty of chaos for the team to contend with.

Remember when Zemo hired the mercenary duo known as the Ladykillers?
He paid them to make some problems for the Thunderbolts to solve. And, they succeeded, and then some.
The being known as Zero/One spent years in a custom designed prison, uniquely designed to circumvent her omega-level technopathy.
The Thunderbolts have just gotten their contract renewed after putting down the Wrecking Crew.
While Zero/One is wrecking havoc in the digital world, her power in the physical one grows more slowly. This could be the Thunderbolts one chance to stop her before it’s too late.
And so the Thunderbolts get their new assignment from Zemo... kill the Ladykillers.
When Songbird and Radioactive Man object to prioritizing Zemo’s dirty laundry over saving the world, they soon find themselves thrown to the wolves.
While the rest of the team takes out the mercenaries, Songbird and Radioactive face down Zero/One and her ever increasing army of techno organic slaves alone.

Radioactive Man and Songbird are pinned down in San Jose by the cybernetic terror known as Zero/One.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Songbird’s secret ward – the half-Asgardian known as Troll – has followed her into the battlefield.
Chen Lu thinks he can manage to disable Zero/One’s techno-slaves with a powerful EMP blast. The question is if he can do that without irradiating the entire Silicon Valley.
How is Melissa supposed to keep her teammate safe while also taking care of an extremely rambunctious (some would say rabid) half-troll Asgardian teenager?
As Norah Winters pursues her investigation into Archangel, she finds Worthington International distinctly uninterested in the fate of their namesake. But she does score a mysterious new source, going by the name “Ramses”.
Meanwhile, Agent Carnage, Archangel and Moonstone are on the hunt for the Ladykillers in... Dubai.
They’re just two base-level humans. It should be a slam dunk for the Thunderbolts, right? Surely the Ladykillers don’t have wealthy connections in the city? And if they did, surely they wouldn’t be wealthy enough to supply them experimental ordinance. Right?

Oh no, looks like the Ladykillers weren’t such a slam dunk for the Thunderbolts.
Rapid-onset adamantium poisoning from their weapons has shut down Cletus Kasady’s brain.
A brain dead Cletus means an out of control Carnage, rampaging through one of the world’s richest cities!
Granted, that’s not so different from a normal Carnage – only this one is putting just as much energy into killing Moonstone and Archangel as anything else!
Elsewhere, Radioactive Man’s EMP has disabled Zero/One’s army, with only a slight sprinkle of deadly radiation sprinkled in. Nothing Zemo’s lawyers can’t handle. Though he’s also completely fried all the technology in the Silicon Valley. Oops.
He’s rather spent from the effort, so he stays behind to take care of Troll while Songbird faces a down-but-not-out Zero/One, one-on-one!
Meanwhile, Norah Winters’ source, turns out to run a “personal development company”, AKKΔBA. It doesn’t take much research (at all) to learn it’s a likely front for the controversial organization known as Akkabalogy. Some would call it a cult, and by some, we mean pretty much everybody outside of AKKΔBA. Is Norah getting in over her head?

The Thunderbolts, reunited? Only nominally.
Moonstone and Archangel managed to take down Carnage, but the Ladykillers got away. Now all they’re left with is a comatose symbiote psychopath.
On the other hand, Songbird and Radioactive Man successfully took down Zero/One. It’s a PR win for the team, but they’re furious with Zemo.
Dallas Riordan, the team’s government liaison, isn’t furious with Zemo yet, but she’s getting there. Expenditure reports aren’t adding up, and that was before an unsanctioned mission in Dubai caused a very expensive diplomatic debacle.
Zemo is a charmer - he has excuses and explanations to smooth over everything. But Dallas can’t shake the feeling he’s not to be trusted. Which is a good instinct, because Zemo is currently exploring what options he has to get her killed.
When Melissa goes to ask Chen Lu to keep Troll a secret, the pair quickly find their relationship escalating from coworkers to something less professional. Nothing wrong with a little workplace romance, right?
Meanwhile, Norah Winters’ continuing investigation into AKKΔBA yields a surprising connection. One of their chief donors is none other than Ichisumi Worthington, the wife (and, many assume, widow) of the Warren Worthington III!
Of course, Warren isn’t dead or missing; he’s on the Thunderbolts! While Moonstone has been trying her best, using an unconventional (and unethical) combination of psychotherapy, pharmaceuticals and bedroom antics to keep Archangel calm and controlled, the anger inside him has been building. And as it does, his memory has started to return.
And what he remembers might be trouble - for the Thunderbolts and AKKABA alike!

“Conditional Carnage”
Bad Seed. Scourge of St. Estes. Chief Petty Officer. Agent Carnage. Scarlet Spider.
Cletus Kasady has had a lot of names, a lot of faces. Some masks disguised, some revealed.
But, as his alien symbiote rebuilds his adamantium-poisoned brain, the question is not who Carnage was but who Carnage will be.
Zemo isn’t going to leave that to chance, and time is of the essence. So he pulls Moonstone off Archangel duty (over her strenuous objections) to build a total sensory conditioning program for Kasady.
Ordinarily the opportunity would excite Karla, but given that Archangel’s condition is deteriorating, she has a nasty feeling that it’s really not the time.
Not to mention that Kasady didn’t leave them any notes on what the hell the deal is with his symbiote.
Meanwhile...
Norah Winters begins to understand what Ramses wanted from her when he reached out to her as a source. Now that she’s embedded in AKKΔBA as a junior member, he’s begun feeding her topics to cover: puff pieces for him and his associates, attacks on their enemies, the usual favors a cult wants from a reporter.
Norah knows there’s a big story to break here. But how much is she willing to risk to break it?
On the other hand, Dallas Riordan continues her attempts to suss out the secrets behind Zemo’s dirty accounting. An uncharacteristically sloppy error seems at first to be a promising lead — until it turns out to lead back to Songbird instead. Can she and Radioactive Man find a way to explain away the funds they’ve been secretly using to support Troll?

Plot by H-E-D

Norah Winters’ embedded reporting on AKKΔBA goes from risky to perilous as she’s “invited” to join an inner circle called the Vanguards of Revelation. The induction ceremony just happens to include ritual branding. Her attempts to decline the honor are politely but firmly denied.
Things just keep getting weirder when Norah finds out that Ichisumi Worthington is personally leading the ceremony for Ramses. Turns out that the Worthington Widow isn’t just a stay at home mom. Just Norah’s luck, then, that AKKΔBA suddenly finds its headquarters assailed by Death itself.
And by that, we mean that as Moonstone was busy trying to reprogram Carnage, Archangel managed to undergo something of an awakening.
(Moonstone would like it to be noted that she warned Zemo that this might happen. And also that if there was a Noble Prize for (Evil) Psychiatry, she’d definitely win it.)
He might not remember everything, or even most things, but Warren Worthington III remembers enough to be seriously confused and *seriously* pissed off. You won’t like the rich white man when he’s angry.
And so the man with poisonous knife wings flies straight to the last place he can remember – and into the middle of the AKKΔBA compound!
Zemo sends the Thunderbolts after him, to save the day! Or rather, to save his own ass, because Archangel definitely witnessed a lot of criminal conduct that he could rat Zemo out on if taken into custody by somebody that cared.
It’s the Thunderbolts vs. Archangel vs. a cult that happens to include his estranged wife. Talk about a family feud.

Ozymandius — or Ramses, as he rebranded himself — is beginning to realize that all the money in the world won’t do him any good if he’s decapitated.
And unfortunately for him, Archangel seems intent on doing just that.
The only thing standing in his way is... Ichisumi, his estranged wife.
The Thunderbolts are under orders to calm things down, but AKKΔBA’s armed guards don’t take their word for it.
As you’d expect from a cult leader, Ramses has no hesitation using his followers as human shields. But Moonstone and Carnage have no compunctions about shedding blood.
Melissa and Chen Lu do their best to incapacitate Archangel, but the Death Seed in Warren makes him more than a match.
The Death Seed. The priceless artifact that Ramses used to transform and empower Warren. The trauma of the process sent Warren into a frenzy and cost him his memory. Now that he remembers, Warren has had an epiphany.
AKKΔBA took everything from him. If he can’t take it all back, he’ll burn it down.
As, one by one, each Thunderbolt falls, stopping Death seems hopeless. Then Ramses pulls out the last trick he has up his sleeve.
He shows Archangel the one sight to bring him out of his murderous haze: his children, fetched by a handler from the depths of the AKKΔBA Compound.

Ramses has gone MIA, escaping from the clutches of Archangel when the sight of his children calmed him.
The Thunderbolts escort Archangel back “home”… so, time for things to get back to normal, right?
It would be, but, Warren remembers everything… and, the Thunderbolts forgot about something.
Or rather, someone. It isn’t long before NORAH WINTERS publishes a scathing exposé about AKKΔBA – and Archangel!
In the absence of Ramses and his mystery patron “Revelation”, it seems like Ichisumi might end up taking the fall.
Warren isn’t sure he’s happy about that… but Zemo doesn’t care. All Zemo cares about is diffusing the PR nightmare of his enigmatic superhero being a supposedly-deceased billionaire!
Nobody is more interested in an explanation than Dallas Riordan, the Thunderbolts’ government liaison.
Moonstone is exasperated by Zemo’s disregard for Warren. Not because she's kind, mind you. She simply understands that if Warren is their problem, then he needs also be their solution. Unfortunately for Karla, the now-cognizant Warren isn’t willing to listen to her, resentful of her unethical treatment of her.
Once recovered from the chaos of the AKKΔBA incident, Warren resolves to leave the Thunderbolts – the obvious choice – before a heart-to-heart with Songbird changes his mind. Bonding over their mutual disdain for Zemo and Moonstone, Warren decides to help Melissa take the organization from the inside. Being fabulously wealthy, he could just walk away… but Melissa doesn’t have that luxury. Neither does Chen Lu.

The Thunderbolts head to Taiwan to hunt one of their own!
As with anything to do with Taiwan, international intervention is an extremely volatile matter. Dallas Riordan’s orders to Zemo are very specific: the Thunderbolts are to accomplish this mission in total secrecy. China cannot find out that the United States sent a superteam to aid Taiwan.
This is especially true given that the prime suspect is one of Zemo’s own.
Doctor Chen Lu, their Radioactive Man, has gone AWOL — and he’s suspect number one in a nuclear terror attack off the coast of the island nation.
The fallout signature is an exact match for “Hazmat’s” radiation profile. Luckily, that means it’s completely harmless. But that hasn’t stop a panic from steadily building.
Melissa Gold is convinced it’s a frame job — but if the Thunderbolts find him without her, she can’t be sure that Moonstone and Carnage wouldn’t kill him before finding out!

“FALLEN ANGEL”
Where did it begin?
The Worthington Family goes way back. Old name, older money. Warren, third of his name, grew up with everything he could have wanted.
But...
Boarding school in Westchester, summers in the Hamptons and Bali, ski trips to the family mansion in Colorado. Dates with wonderful girls: Cressida Desford; Bera: Avia; Amanda Cobb; Candy Southern.
But...
He wasn’t even a normal human. He was born different. Special. Mutant. And beautiful. Gorgeous wings, the gift of flight. The stuff of dreams
But...
Ivy League university. When he roomed with Cameron Hodge, their dorm bore his family’s name. Semesters abroad in Paris, Barcelona, Osaka. He had it all.
But...
When you have everything you could have ever wanted before you even knew you wanted it, what is there to dream of?
Nothing.
The thought struck him at a young age. He didn’t let people know. He tried to keep the truth even from himself. To all who knew him, he was the golden boy, the angel with his head in the clouds and a smile on his face. But when he lay in bed at night, unable to sleep, he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about it:
Death.
Akkabatology, like all cults, targets the vulnerable. Vulnerability comes in many forms. For the shining Warren Worthington, his vulnerability was the shadow behind his smile, the sadness in his eyes. When Ozymandius saw that void in the heart of the billionaire Scion, he sensed opportunity.
Have you ever had the sense that something is missing from your life?
The Angel took to the teachings like a moth to a flame. “The void in your heart,” it said, “is not your own. We will fill that void. Give of yourself, and we will give unto you.”
There’s someone I’d like you to meet...
Warren was introduced to Ichisumi Kishi early on in his Akkabatology journey. She recognized his sadness for it was her own. She too was born to old money, wanted for nothing. Life had seemed nothing but a plague, a pestilence forced upon her. But then Ozymandius had found her, had shown her truth of Akkabatology, the Revelation.
Anything for the cause...
To the outside world, it seemed a whirlwind romance. But where Ozymandius’ plans ended and their feelings began was unclear. Millions of dollars from Warren’s private holdings were already being funneled annually into Akkabatology by the time they were married. By the time their twins, Uriel and Eimin, were born, Ozymandius owned more of Warren’s life than the man himself. Ozymandius used that money to fund the rebrand of the cult into AKKΔBA, as well as his own transformation into Ramses.
But...
It wasn’t enough for AKKΔBA. It never is for people like them. All Warren wanted was something to live for. And so he gave of himself his mutant body. And so they made of him:
Death.

"BORN BETTER"
“The world hears the name Zemo, and it knows awe!”
That is the lesson handed down, generation to generation, father to son, Baron to Baron, Zemo to Zemo.
Helmut grew up hearing these lessons from his grandfather Heinrich. The Zemo line was pure. Superior. The Master Race. Helmut knew this: he was born better.
Reality was destined to fall short of Helmut’s expectations. Operation Paperclip had brought the Zemos to America, but it did not line their pockets with the gold they were accustomed to. He grew up comfortable, sure, but hardly in luxury. When he walked the street, nobody recognized his face. None spoke the Zemo name with awe; few knew it at all.
When history spoke of “the Greatest Generation”, it referred not to his family, but those who had deposed them. Helmut thought: then I will show them. They venerate the soldiers that defeated my grandfather; I will become a soldier. I will surpass them.
He rose the ranks. I will show them, he thought. I will go overseas. I will kill their enemies. I will earn their adoration. As a Colonel, he befriended General Thunderbolt Ross. But it was not the praise of generals that he sought. And neither was the love he received when he returned home.
“Thank you for your service!”
As if he’d done it for them. He was no servant. He was meant to command. He was meant to rule. He went private: EKO Scorpion, his own command, his own private fiefdom. For the small sacrifice of the blood of his lessers, he gained the wealth he’d always dreamed of. But, was it enough? No. Not even when he was able to purchase back Castle Zemo for his family.
He was a Baron, but what use the title, if unrecognized? None. What use loyalty, if conditional? None. Then, on the news and in the field, he began to see them. Heroes. Supermen. Even Captain America, his father’s lost nemesis.
And how the world loved them. How they listened. How they understood, understood that they were lesser.
Zemo was patient. He had waited his entire life; he could wait a while longer. The plan he was hatching was not one to be rushed. When he old friend General Ross broached the idea of a privately contracted super-team, he saw that it was time.
The world will know the name Zemo once more. And this time, they will obey!

“NUCLEAR DECAY”
Everything falls apart, when viewed on a long enough time frame. Even atoms.
Professor Chen Lu was the mind of his generation, they said! A mind unrivaled and unprecedented. A bold and radical genius.
Too bold and too radical, it seemed, for his superiors at the China Institute of Atomic Energy. When he refused to simply work on the unambiguous projects assigned to him, his work was buried entirely.
It seemed like he was destined to be a case of squandered potential... until the keen eye of Kenzo Xiu, the head of the Taiji Corporation, headhunted him.
At Taiji, Dr. Chen pushed the boundaries of physics alongside fellow mavericks like Doctor Baron Krugg, Feng Huang and the dynamic Alex Su.
They seemed destined for greatness… but the span of a few years lead them all to infamy.
The first to “fall” was Feng Huang, lured back to the leadership of her family’s nefarious Nüba Jituan. Alex Su’s risky experiments saw him become the bizarre, vampiric DOCTOR SUN. And last, but not least…
The experiment that transformed Chen Lu into THE RADIOACTIVE MAN also transformed Krugg into the fearsome GREEN DEATH.
Lu saw the transformation as a miracle – the creation of living, self-sustaining, clean nuclear reactors. But Krugg thought himself a monster.
You can guess who the world agreed with.

REAL AMERICAN HERO
CPO Cletus Kasady was more than a soldier.
Cletus Kasady was a hero.
That’s what they all told him, as they pinned the medals to his chest, draped them around his neck.
Cletus Kasady – he never cared about the medals. He didn’t do it for the awards.
He did it because it was fun.
The ceremonies never mentioned particulars – details were classified. What Cletus did was between him, his symbiote, the Marines, and the dead.
Until one day, it wasn’t.
Then came the trials. In the media. At Langley. Court-martials. The Hague.
It wasn’t seeing his name racked through the mud that bothered Kasady. He didn’t mind that people knew the particulars now. The beatings, looting, extortion, executions of innocents, even worse.
But the trials? The convictions?
No fun to be had in solitary confinement.
But some people still called him a hero. Kasady didn’t know, didn’t care, until the day those people got a President to give him a pardon. On that day, for the first time, Cletus Kasady considered himself a patriot.
God Bless America. God Bless Carnage U.S.A.

“NO GOOD DEAD GOES UNPUNISHED”
Once, they were the THUNDERBOLTS, but no more. Now they are fugitives, hounded for crimes they did not commit. (And maybe a few that they did.)
Hunting them are the REDEEMERS, America’s newest scheme to repackage supervillains as heroes!
Col. Helmut J. Zemo, the one who framed the Thunderbolts, is now Secretary of Defense – sixth in line for the Presidency!
Dallas Riordan’s spy skills have kept them one step ahead of the Redeemers… for now. But they know they need a plan beyond running.
They assess their options:
1. SONGBIRD’s instincts tell her she should stay and fight, to bring Zemo to justice.
2. RADIOACTIVE MAN could risk asking the Nüba Jituan for help.
3. TROLL wants to go home. Home is Zanadu, the Mystic Mountain, province of Vanaheim. Yeah.
4. ARCHANGEL is confident that his old friend, fellow billionaire Cameron Hodge, can help. Maybe even arrange for a trip to Krakatoa.
5. DALLAS RIORDAN has a contact that can smuggle them to the rogue nation of Sharzhad.
As the de-facto leader, Riordan makes the call. (She choses her own suggestion, don’t be shocked)
But when they arrive at the contact point, the inevitable occurs.
The Redeemers attack!
Will the heroes formerly known as the Thunderbolts survive the experience?

The fugitives once known as the Thunderbolts face their replacements, the Redeemers!
SONGBIRD vs WARBIRD
The heart of the Thunderbolts against it’s lack-of-a-conscience. Both Melissa and Karla would be lying if they said they hadn’t been looking forward to this.
TROLL vs ATLAS
The biggest combatant against the smallest! But don’t worry, because Troll’s Magzi and Asgardian heritages give her strength beyond her size!
ARCHANGEL vs MACH-X
Winged death against a human fighter jet!
RADIOACTIVE MAN vs SCARLET SPIDER
A human nuclear reactor against a brain-damaged war criminal with a deadly alien symbiote!
DALLAS RIORDAN vs TECHNO
A secret agent against an amoral technological prodigy!
Meanwhile
Norah Winters puts herself in Zemo’s crosshairs as she investigates the circumstances of his appointment as Secretary of Defense. But she might be on the verge of discovering an even grander conspiracy!

The (former) Thunderbolts – victorious?!
Not quite, but the Thunderbolts are in the wind. The Redeemers failed to apprehend them!
A furious Secretary Zemo’s first instinct? Fire them!
But that would be a PR disaster, so he settles for berating them. For the time being.
Besides, Zemo thinks he’s figured out the real problem with the Redeemers – there’s not enough of them!
The solution? Meet SKEIN, PALADIN, WHIZZER and BRAWN, the NEW Redeemers!
Off the record: meet the sinister mutant Sybarite, the vindictive mercenary Satánica, the sadistic crook Speed Demon, and the imposing muscle Axum!
As the Redeemers spread their reach, Zemo prepares for a very, very important meeting with the President…
Meanwhile
The (former) Thunderbolts also have an important meeting… with their lawyer!
Meet Perry Hammond, Attorney at Law, the First Mutant Lawyer.
Having done his due diligence, he’s fairly certain he could get the charges against them dropped… if they got a fair trial.
Hammond has a plan to leak the details to Norah Winters for a PR coup, but will that be enough?
The team doesn’t think so. In fact, they decide its time to go their separate ways.
Chen Lu calls in a favor from the Nüba Jituan, arranging passage to an extrajudicial haven… Madripoor.
Melissa Gold, meanwhile, calls in a favor from the SPELLBINDER, Jennifer Kale. Before she can join Chen Lu in Madripoor, she and Troll have a trip to take… to the land of Zanadu, in the realm of Vanaheim!
(Why does Jen owe Songbird? That’s a tale for another time…)
Dallas Riordan plans another escape to Sharzad, this time by way of Atlantis! (She knows a guy who knows a guy… who knows Namor)
Archangel decides to roll the dice and hope his being a white billionaire will keep him safe in America.
Ordinarily, it would… but not if Cameron Hodge has anything to say about it!

Things sure have been strange in Washington DC ever since Secretary Zemo had his closed-doors meeting with the President.
The President has made a lot of… off brand appointments and executive orders.
And day by day, it seems to be spreading. To the Cabinet, to Congress, beyond.
More and more sing the praises of one man. Not the elected President, no. They speak of one man, one name.
Zemo.
Across the world, people look on in horror as the United States descends into the abyss of white supremacy. Nobody is more perturbed that his old employees, the fugitive THUNDERBOLTS.
But what can they do about it? They’re just glad they got out in time.
At least they’re safe, right?
…right?
Uh oh.
